2025 Headland Rams Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Headland Rams enter the 2025 season looking to build off their 2024 Sweet 16 appearance with a mix of experienced upperclassmen and promising young talent. With five returning positional starters and five pitchers back in the rotation, Headland will lean on its strong pitching staff and solid defense as it aims for another deep postseason run in Class 5A.

Headland returns a core group of players who made significant contributions last season, led by Auburn commit Wade Shelley (2025, OF). One of the top hitters in the state, Shelley posted a dominant .481 batting average with a 1.349 OPS, adding 37 hits, nine doubles, four home runs, and 34 runs scored in just 23 games. His offensive presence will be key to the Rams' success. On the mound, RHP/SS Bryce Gover (2025, Wallace-Dothan CC) leads the Rams’ pitching staff after an impressive 2024 season in which he logged 53.1 innings, striking out 79 batters with a 2.88 ERA. He will also contribute at shortstop. RHP/INF Bryant Bush (2025) and RHP/1B Collin Phillips (2026) add depth to the rotation, while C Ryan Roland (2026), who caught 105 innings last season, provides defensive stability behind the plate. OF Brody Elliott (2025), an exceptional defender, will also return to the lineup. The Rams will also benefit from contributions by a solid group of upperclassmen. UTL Martin Mitchell (2025) and RHP/OF Brodie Burdeshaw (2025) will compete for key roles, while RHP/UTL Ashton Trammell (2026), a standout football quarterback, brings athleticism and versatility to the team. RHP/INF Justin Parnell (2026) and LHP/1B Monty Masters (2026) will provide valuable depth, both on the mound and in the field. OF Tucker Doswell (2026), OF Davis Bond (2026), and UTL Andrew Condrey (2026) are a few more junior prospects to watch for the Rams this spring. Several young players are expected to step up this season, including LHP/OF William Mitchell (2027), RHP/SS Nicholas Boatwright (2028), RHP/INF Colton Davis (2028), OF Evan Money (2028), and LHP/1B Jace Dean (2028). These underclassmen have the potential to make an impact at the plate and on the mound, giving the Rams added depth. RHP/1B Casey Knowles (2028) and RHP/3B Jayden Williams (2028) are also names to watch as they develop into key contributors.

With strong pitching, reliable defense, and a lineup featuring both experienced veterans and talented young players, Headland has the pieces to be a competitive force in Class 5A. They'll compete in Class 5A, Area 4 against Carroll and Eufala for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. If their pitching staff performs as expected and their offense provides consistent run support, the Rams could be poised for a deeper playoff run in 2025.
