TEAM OUTLOOK
The Holtville Bulldogs enter the 2025 season aiming to build on their recent streak of postseason success, having reached at least the Elite Eight in each of the past four seasons dating back to 2021. Under the leadership of successful head coach Scott Tubbs, the Bulldogs have established a reputation for fielding tough, talented teams year after year, and 2025 looks to be no different.
Entering the 2024 season as the defending Class 5A state champions, Holtville faced high expectations but found their rhythm at the right time, securing another area title and taking down strong competition in the playoffs. Hosting Elmore County in the first round, the Bulldogs flexed their offensive firepower with dominant wins of 14-4 and 11-0 to advance to the Sweet 16. That set up a familiar postseason battle against Headland, one of the more compelling rivalries in Class 5A, where Holtville edged out a hard-fought three-game series with scores of 6-5, 0-10, and 6-4 to reach the Elite Eight for the fourth consecutive season. However, their run came to an end in the state quarterfinals, where they fell in two tightly contested games to Valley, 1-0 and 2-0, closing the season with a 22-15 record. Looking ahead to 2025, the Bulldogs appear poised for another strong campaign with a solid returning core, including five positional starters and four key arms. Among them, 1B/LHP Carson McCutchin (2025) played a vital role last season, going 6-0 with a 3.10 ERA on the mound while also driving in 18 runs at the plate. C/RHP Gage Nelson (2026) made an impact as well, posting a 3-2 record on the mound and hitting .301 with 17 RBIs. The outfield returns key contributors in OF/RHP Madison Curry (2026) and OF Kelan Kimbro (2026), who both had strong sophomore seasons—Curry posting a 3.80 ERA and Kimbro hitting .257 with 21 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. OF Cedrick Croskey (2025) added speed on the basepaths with 19 stolen bases while hitting .250 and looks primed for an even bigger senior year. Fellow senior OF Jayse Price (2025) is another name to watch in the outfield. In addition to the upperclassmen, the Bulldogs have a promising group of underclassmen ready to contribute. C Davis Foshee (2027) and INF Kory Duett (2027) are two sophomores expected to compete for key varsity roles and add to Holtville’s depth. With a mix of experienced veterans and emerging young talent, the Bulldogs look well-equipped for another deep postseason run in 2025.
After four consecutive seasons of reaching at least the Class 5A quarterfinals and securing 22 or more wins, the Bulldogs enter the 2025 season with high expectations as they prepare to debut their brand-new turf field this spring. They'll compete in Class 5A, Area 5 against Brewbaker Tech and Marbury for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Expect the Bulldogs to have another big season and be a strong threat to make another deep run throughout the Class 5A playoffs in 2025.
