Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Lakeside School Chiefs are coming off a historic 2024 campaign that featured a 25-23 record and an AISA AA State Championship. Looking to repeat and go back-to-back, the Chiefs bring back plenty of returners from last year's team and add in some marquee pieces on both sides of the ball as they gear up for the 2025 season.

After starting the season with a 4-8 record out of the gate in 2024, the Chiefs seemed to really come together and play their best baseball at the second-half of the season and obviously during the playoffs, where they swept Edgewood Academy in the AA State Championship by scores of 10-0 and 14-9 to capture a state title. The Chiefs have to be one of the main favorites once again to claim another AA State Title, as they will feature plenty of talent and depth, especially on the mound. Beginning with some notable experienced returners, C/RHP Carson Scott (2025) and RHP/INF Luke McGowan (2027) should once again play vital roles both at the plate and on the mound for the Chiefs in 2025. Scott is coming off a stellar junior campaign where he posted a .289 batting average with a 7-6 record and 141 Ks on the mound, while McGowan starred as a freshman hitting .291 offensively with a 4-4 record and 53 Ks on the mound. Both are familiar faces and have a chance to have even bigger springs this season. 3B Conner Britton (2025) should be a quality addition to the Chiefs' program this spring and will only help bolster their quality offensive attack. Last season as a junior, the left-handed hitter posted a .387 batting average and looks poised to build off of it. RHP/C Carson Britton (2026) missed the majority of last spring due to injury, but will be looking to make a big impact this spring now as he returns to full-strength. The junior has a low-80s fastball and a quality changeup as his primary off-speed offering. Looking at a pair of underclassmen who should play important roles this spring for the Chiefs, RHP/1B Boston Brown (2027) and C/RHP Trent Hayes (2027) both have a chance to make strong contributions on both sides of the ball this season. Brown, a top-10 prospect in the 2027 class in Alabama, is a strong-armed right-handed pitcher who possesses an upper-80s fastball and quality experience playing against some talented competition last spring. The sophomore posted 47 Ks in 44.1 IP last season and looks poised for an even bigger spring. Hayes is a strong backstop who recieves well and has good arm strength from behind the plate. A few other talented prospects to watch for this spring are RHP Demetrius Hardnett (2025) and RHP Tyler-Mark Bullock (2026), both of which have loads of potential on the mound.

Looking at this year's roster, it's easy to see the talent the Chiefs will have this spring, including players who have shown that they know what it takes to win a state championship. The pitching staff has tons of depth filled with quality pitchers that have different kinds of experience and talent. Expect the Lakeside School Chiefs to have another strong season as they aim to defend their AISA AA State Championship in 2025.
