Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Lauderdale County Tigers have been on the brink of their first state championship in school history multiple times over the past decade, highlighted by a Class 3A runner-up finish in 2018 and a recent Final Four appearance in 2024. After establishing themselves as one of Class 3A’s top teams last season, the Tigers aim to build on that success this year.

After holding the No. 1 ranking in the Class 3A polls for most of the season, the Tigers entered the playoffs as area champions and one of the top contenders for a state championship in a highly competitive field. Their success was fueled by a dominant pitching staff that allowed fewer than two runs per game, making them a tough team to beat. Lauderdale County cruised through the early rounds of the playoffs, sweeping Glencoe, Plainview, and Gordo to reach the Final Four against Westbrook Christian. Riding a roughly 19-game winning streak and ranking among the hottest teams in the state, the Tigers appeared primed for a deep run. However, Westbrook Christian managed to pull off a road upset, ending Lauderdale County’s season with a 25-6 record. This year, the Tigers will need to replace some key contributors but still return several impact players on both sides of the ball. Senior LHP/1B Skylar Tucker (Bevill State CC, 2025) enters the season looking to build on a standout junior campaign, where he earned Class 3A First Team All-State honors after going 8-2 with 108 strikeouts, just 14 walks, and a 1.16 ERA. He will be the team's ace and a crucial piece of their success. Behind the plate, senior catcher Hudson Lash (2025), a four-year starter, will continue to be a key leader, providing both offensive production and strong defensive work in managing the pitching staff. Several returning players are expected to step into larger roles this season. Senior pitchers RHP Maddox Weigart (2025) and LHP Logan Higginbotham (2025) will look to transition from relief roles into potential starting spots. RHP/3B Jackson Hamm (2025) is set to return after missing the 2024 season with an arm injury, and he could provide an immediate boost. UTL Michael Camp (2025) is a newcomer poised to strengthen the middle of the lineup. Additionally, one of the program’s top underclassmen, C/OF Curtis Ritter (2027), is expected to play a significant role this spring. A standout athlete and the school’s starting quarterback, Ritter will likely split catching duties with Lash while making an impact in other areas as well.

The Tigers have the pieces in place for another strong season as they look to build on last year’s success. They'll compete in Class 3A, Area 16 against Clements and Rogers for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. With a mix of experienced leaders and emerging talent, they have the potential to remain a top contender in Class 3A in 2025.
