Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

After eclipsing 20-win mark in 2024, the Gamecocks will look to take another step forward this spring but will need some newer faces to step into important role left by last year's graduating class. New Brockton will also be making the jump this spring from Class 3A to Class 4A, and hope they can continue their streak of playoff appearances over the past few seaosns. There's still plenty of talent on this year's roster, and those new faces are hoping to step in and make a big impact in 2025 for the Gamecocks.

Finishing the regular season with a 19-11 record, the Gamecocks finished behind Opp in the area standings after a tight series in the regular season to decide the area winner and runner-up. The Gamecocks were forced to go on the road in the 1st round of the Class 3A playoffs, but were able to sweep Beulah by scores of 6-5 and 2-0 to advance to the Sweet 16 where they would face a talented Providence Christian squad. After winning Game 1 by score of 9-6, the Gamecocks would unfortunately drop Games 2 and 3 by scores of 16-3 and 8-0 to close out their season. It was an excellent season filled with noteworthy wins over quality opponents, but the Gamecocks will now shift their focus to 2025 with hopes of replicating that same success. With just three positional starters and one pitcher returning, they'll rely on those returners to carry the load in the early part of the season and hope to be playing their best baseball down the stretch. Starting on the mound, RHP Jacob Fisher (2026) returns as the ace of their pitching rotation after throwing 17.2 IP and going 2-1 with 26 Ks. He also will be a key piece offensively as the designated-hitter and brings back a .311 batting average with 12 RBIs. OF Baylon Foster (2025) and OF Hayden Pope (2025) are a pair of speedy senior outfielders that bring back tons of valuable varsity experience as a multi-year starters for the Gamecocks. Both players can affect the game in a variety of ways with their speed and cover tons of ground in the outfield defensively. Foster posted a .254 batting average with 17 Rs and 18 SBs, while Pope hit .299 in batting average with 24 Rs and 25 SBs. Both Foster and Pope can make instant offense at the top of their order and will need to do so this spring. Shifting gears to some noteworthy underclassmen, RHP Griffin Wood (2027) and 1B Will Adkison (2027) are two sophomore prospects who will look to make an impact in their first year of starting at the varsity level. Wood has made significant jumps in terms of velocity and should be their No. 2 in the pitching rotation, while Adkison is a left-handed hitter who can hit to all fields using his strong frame.

Led by Foster and Pope on the offensive side and Fisher on the mound, the Gamecocks still bring back some valuable production on both sides and are hoping some newer faces will get comfortable in their roles during the middle of the season to set themselves up for another playoff run. They'll compete in Class 4A, Area 4 against Bullock County, Opp, Pike County, and Straughn for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Look for New Brockton to once again be a competitive club in their new classification in 2025.
