Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Oak Mountain Eagles have built a strong reputation for developing elite talent in recent years, and this season is no exception. With several players already committed to college programs or possessing the skills to do so in the future, the Eagles’ roster remains stacked. Competing in the largest classification in Alabama, and within the talent-rich Birmingham area, Oak Mountain aims to establish itself as one of the top teams in 2025.

Last year, the Eagles finished with a solid 21-12 record while facing some of the state's toughest competition. However, they fell just short, becoming one of the two teams left out of a tough area that included Chelsea, Hewitt-Trussville, and Spain Park. While some of those teams have moved to new areas or classifications, Area 6 remains challenging with Hewitt-Trussville, Hoover, and Vestavia Hills all vying for two playoff spots. This year's Eagles squad looks poised to compete with a talented, deep pitching staff that returns eight pitchers who gained valuable experience on the mound last season. Offensively, the Eagles return three positional starters, with several others primed to make an immediate impact. Key returning seniors include 3B Noah Eady (Coastal Alabama-South CC, 2025), OF/LHP Owen Edwards (2025), RHP/OF Gabe Jones (Enterprise State CC, 2025), and 1B Brooks Braswell (2025). These four players bring years of varsity experience, with Eady and Braswell having been key contributors in the middle of the lineup for the past couple of seasons. Edwards and Jones are dynamic two-way players who will be expected to make major contributions both at the plate and on the mound. SS/RHP Xander Hughes (2026), another talented two-way player, has seen varsity action for two years and looks ready to break out in his junior campaign. Oak Mountain’s sophomore class is also loaded with potential, and several of these players will compete for playing time early in the season. Keep an eye on SS/RHP Jake Hartsfield (2027), OF/RHP William Yoder (2027), and OF/RHP Charlie Williamon (2027) as they look to make their mark this season.

While the Eagles have plenty of talent to match up with the best in the Birmingham area, their playoff hopes will come down to performing at their highest level during the crucial final stretch of the season. They'll compete in Class 7A, Area 6 against Hewitt-Trussville, Hoover, and Vestavia Hills for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. With a talented roster and strong leadership, the Eagles are poised for another successful season as they aim to return to the playoffs and make a deep run in 2025.
