2025 Oakman Wildcats Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Oakman Wildcats carry plenty of momentum into their 2025 campaign after coming off back-to-back area championships in 2023 and 2024. While both of their seasons came to an end in the 1st round of the playoffs during those years, the Wildcats look poised to have another strong season and are looking to advance further in the playoffs this spring. With most of their offensive lineup and top three pitchers returning this spring, there's plenty of reason for excitement going into this season.

Coming into this season, the Wildcats are looking to continue their recent trend of success over the past few seasons after improving their win total year after year. Accumulating 18 wins and another appearance in the 1st round of the playoffs, there's plenty of reason to believe the Wildcats can improve on that, especially with six positional starters and four of their top returning pitchers back on this year's team. 3B/RHP Brady Jones (2026) is one of their main returners on both sides of the ball and was named to the Class 3A 1st Team All-State for his performance last seaeson and rightfully so, as he posted a .494 batting average with 16 2Bs, 3 HRs, & 24 RBIs at the plate and went 5-1 on the mound, as well. Coming off a year like that, who knows how much better he can get, but he looks poised for another big season for the Wildcats both at the plate and on the mound in 2025. SS Hampton Hall (2028) is one of the few returning underclassmen on this year's team who brings back a strong amount of experience. As an eighth-grader in 2024, the right-hander hit .463 in batting average with 24 RBI and 12 SB. He will be a key piece near the top of their order and up the middle at the shortstop position. INF/RHP Weston Burton (2026) is another returning junior, like Jones, who had a big year for the Wildcats on both sides of the ball and looks ready to build off of his strong sophomore campaign. In 2024, the right-hander hit .422 in batting average with 21 RBIs and 19 SBs and also went 4-3 on the mound. In addition to Hall, C Ledger Martin (2028) is another talented freshman who brings back a .432 batting average and 21 RBIs as an eighth-grader from a season ago. On the mound, RHP Eli Woodard (2029) may just be an eighth-grader, but the right-hander already has valuable varsity experience after posting a 3-1 record from a season ago. In their 1st round playoff series, he was even able to beat Houston Academy in Game 1 of their series as a seventh-grader. Look for him to have another quality season. INF Skyler Driver (2028) should be another key underclassmen for the Wildcats this spring, as he started in 25 games last season and had 10 SBs on the basepaths.

Looking at the talent coming back for the Wildcats in 2025, there's plenty of reason for optimism going into this season. They'll compete in Class 3A, Area, 10 against Carbon Hill, Gordo, and Winfield for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Expect Oakman to look to continue their recent trend of success and attempt to make a solid run in the Class 3A playoffs in 2024.
