2025 Phil Campbell Bobcats Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

After reaching three consecutive Final 4 appearances in Class 3A, the Bobcats are looking to bounce back from their 2024 campaign and regain their spot among the state’s elite teams. While last season didn’t unfold as hoped, the team enters 2025 with renewed optimism, confident that the experience gained by last year’s squad will translate into a deeper playoff run this spring.

Despite missing the playoffs last season, the Bobcats have reason to be hopeful, with a talented mix of returning seniors and promising underclassmen. On the mound, they are expected to be one of the team's main strength, while their offense should remain competitive with key pieces returning. The 2025 roster features several key senior leaders, including RHP/1B Cale Faust (2025), RHP/SS Koltin Hester (2025), C Bentley Hill (2025), OF Braxton Mayfield (2025), and INF Trace Duboise (2025), all of whom will play vital roles in driving the team’s success this season. With their experience and leadership, these seniors are poised to cap off their high school careers with a season that mirrors the program’s past success. In addition to the senior leadership, the Bobcats will also rely on a talented crop of underclassmen. INF/RHP Chandler Benford (2027), RHP/3B Isaac Duboise (2027), and UTL Shooter Motes (2027) are all poised to earn significant playing time and contribute at the varsity level. Their development will be crucial to the team’s long-term success, both in 2025 and in the years to come. The Bobcats are set to compete for the area championship and will look to return to the playoffs with a balanced squad that combines experience and youthful potential. With the right mix of leadership, pitching depth, and offensive ability, the Bobcats have the tools to make a strong push this spring and get back to the later rounds of the postseason.

As the calendar turns to February, the Bobcats enter the season hoping their pitching can help lead the charge throughout the season and put them on top of their area when the regular season comes to an end. They'll compete in Class 3A, Area 14 against Colbert County, Colbert Heights, and Sheffield for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Expect the Bobcats to take a strong step forward from last season as they aim to get back to the playoffs in Class 3A in 2025.
