2025 Pike Road Patriots Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Pike Road Patriots kick off the 2025 season following a strong 2024 campaign that saw them reach the Sweet 16 with a 22-9 record. With new head coach Caleb Brooks at the helm, the Patriots are poised to rely on their returning pitching staff as they aim to make another playoff run in Class 6A this spring.

The Patriots faced some of the toughest competition during the 2024 regular season, earning key victories over strong programs such as Holtville, Marbury, Prattville Christian, Prattville, Wetumpka, Dothan, Smiths Station, and Benjamin Russell. After capturing an area championship and entering the playoffs on a hot streak, Pike Road cruised through McAdory in the first round, setting up a Sweet 16 showdown with Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. Unfortunately, their season ended with a two-game loss to the eventual Class 6A State Champions, finishing with a 22-9 record. Looking ahead to 2025, the Patriots aim to go deeper into the postseason. On the mound, they'll be anchored by RHP Hudson Franks (2026) and LHP Hunter Matthes (2027), who each logged over 47 innings last season. Franks, a multi-year starter, posted a 2.68 ERA in 2024, while Matthes recorded 65 strikeouts and a 2.64 ERA during his sophomore year. Both bring a wealth of experience and are expected to lead the pitching staff. Offensively, seniors UTL Runner Stripling (2025) and 1B/RHP Hunter Morton (Bryan College, 2025) will be key contributors. Stripling, coming off a solid junior campaign with 23 runs scored and 12 RBIs, is poised to build on that success. Morton, who hit .318 with seven doubles and 18 RBIs last season, will also provide leadership both at the plate and on the mound. SS/RHP Herbert Reyes (2026) had a breakout sophomore year, hitting .307 with 13 RBIs and 26 runs scored, and he is expected to improve on those numbers in 2025. Another player to watch is 1B Coleman Russell (2025), who was off to a strong start in 2024 before an injury sidelined him. Despite the setback, Russell went 7-for-14 with a home run and 6 RBIs in a small sampel size. Underclassmen like OF/RHP Quinton Robinson (2027) and C Diego Pacheco (2028) will also look to make an impact this season, with both players capable of stepping up and contributing in key roles.

With a strong blend of experienced seniors and talented underclassmen, the Pike Road Patriots are set to make a push for another successful season in 2025. They'll compete in Class 6A, Area 3 against Park Crossing, Rehobeth, and Russell County for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular seaosn. If they can continue to build on the momentum from their 2024 campaign and stay healthy, the Patriots have the potential to make a postseason run and challenge for a spot among the top teams in Class 6A.
