2025 Priceville Bulldogs Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Priceville Bulldogs head into the 2025 season with new leadership as head coach Garrett Brown takes the helm, aiming to build on the program’s recent success in Class 4A, including an Elite 8 run two years ago. With a deep and experienced pitching staff returning, the Bulldogs will rely on their arms as they get set to compete in their first season at the Class 5A level.

After finishing as the area runner-up to Haleyville last season, the Bulldogs played in a hard-fought, low-scoring first-round playoff series on the road against Deshler. Despite their efforts, they fell in two games, closing out the season with a 21-12 record. With five positional starters and five pitchers returning, Priceville brings back a wealth of experience on both sides of the ball as they aim for a deeper postseason run in 2025. Leading the way on the mound, RHP Colman Gann (Alabama-Huntsville, 2025) and RHP/UTL Tyde Borden (Wallace-Hanceville CC, 2025) headline a talented and battle-tested rotation. Gann posted an impressive 6-0 record with a 1.17 ERA, striking out 87 batters in 53.2 innings, while Borden recorded a 3-1 record with a 2.05 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 30.2 innings. Borden also contributed offensively, hitting .345 with five doubles. Both stand 6-foot-4 and feature fastballs in the mid-to-upper 80s. Additional key returners include RHP/UTL Tatum Sivley (2025) and RHP/OF Thomas Ferguson (2025), who played vital roles last season, along with RHP/INF Ethan Sherwood (2026), who hit .333 as a sophomore. Senior RHP/OF JD Pflueger (2025) is another experienced leader expected to make an impact this spring. Among the underclassmen looking to earn playing time and establish themselves for the future, RHP/INF David Sharp Jr. (2027), RHP/C Trevor Shannon (2028), and LHP/1B Gage Vaughn (2028) will compete for early opportunities in the regular season.

With a strong group of returning players and a deep pitching staff, the Priceville Bulldogs are well-positioned for a successful 2025 season. They'll compete in Class 5A, Area 14 against Lawrence County, Russellville, and West Point for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. If their experienced arms continue to deliver quality outings and key contributors step up at the plate, the Bulldogs have the potential to compete at a high level and make a serious push toward the later rounds of the postseason.
