Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

TEAM OUTLOOK

Coming off of a quality 2024 campaign that featured an area championship and hosting the 1st round of the playoffs, the Bulldogs are excited coming into the new year with hopes of building on last season's success. Looking at the roster, they appear to be fairly young with some quality underclassmen who will play big roles this season, but some of those players already have varsity experience and will look to take a jump this spring. There's plenty to be excited for this season and looking to ahead to the future of the Bulldogs' program.

Sweeping through their area series in 2024, the Bulldogs captured another area championship and hosted a quality Cottonwood club in the 1st round of the Class 2A playoffs. They were, however, defeated in two games by scores of 10-6 and 1-0 to close out their season with 12-16 record. Hoping to take another step forward in 2025, the Bulldogs were feature numerous players who have two or more years of starting experience at the varsity level. Leading it off, RHP/OF Colton Johnson (2027) is one of those multi-year starters who, while being a sophomore, is someone the coaching staff will depend on both at the plate and on the mound. Last year as a freshman, the right-hander posted a .289 batting average with 21 RBIs at the plate, and threw some significant innings on the mound. RHP/OF Drew Davenport (2026) enjoyed a quality sophomore campaign in 2024 and appears to be ready to have another breakout campaign this season. The junior is coming off a spring in 2024 where he posted a .495 OBP at the plate and tossed 52.1 IP while accumulating a 2.81 ERA on the mound. Both of these returners will be crucial to their success this spring, as will be the same for SS/RHP Cason Jones (2028) and INF/RHP Carter Loren (2028). These two freshman may just be freshman, but are two more Bulldogs who both will be entering their third year of starting at the varsity level. Jones posted a .338 batting average with 16 RBI a season ago, while Loren will look to build off of a .241 batting average and 13 RBI, as well. C Aiden Jackson (2027) is yet another underclassmen who is hoping to take another step forward in 2025 after posting a .432 OBP with 13 RBI at the plate. He will also handle the pitching staff behind the plate defensively. In addition to these returners, INF/RHP James Ward (2028) and INF/RHP Owen Henderson (2028) are two more talented freshman who will be looking to make sizable impacts this spring for the Bulldogs.

The core underclassmen group for the Bulldogs is extremely strong with numerous multi-year starters who haven't reached their junior years of high school yet. Getting the varsity experience early in a player's career is very important, and the Bulldogs coaching staff is hoping it will continue to benefit them this year and in the years to come. They'll compete in Class 2A, Area 8 against Central-Coosa and Horseshoe Bend for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Expect the Bulldogs to be a strong candidate to reach the playoffs once again with the hopes of advancing even further in Class 2A in 2025.
