2025 Sumiton Christian Eagles Team Preview

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

TEAM OUTLOOK
The Sumiton Christian Eagles had one of the more dominant seasons of the year in 2024 winning and a Class 1A State Championship and posting a 28-5 record in the process. Moving up to Class 2A this season, the competition elevates itself, but the Eagles return a strong amount of returners, especially on the offensive side, from last year's state title team.
Posting an impressive 28-5 record in 2024, four of those losses came to teams in higher classifications, including two to the Class 5A State Champion Corner Yellow Jackets. The Eagles finished with a 10-1 in the postseason with sweeps over Shoals Christian, Athens Bible, Hackleburg, and Coosa Christian to reach the Class 1A State Championship series against Sweet Water. After a split in Games 1 and 2, Sumiton Christian sealed the deal with a 14-3 victory in Game 3 to finish as the Class 1A State Champions. It was their second state championship in program history, with the first coming in 2004 at the Class 2A level. Now back in Class 2A in 2025, the Eagles look to be gearing up for another big season with seven positional starters and four pitchers returning. Leading off the notable returners, LHP/OF Austin Hubbard (2026) played a crucial role on both sides of the ball last season and looks poised to lead the charge once again this season. The Game 3 starter of the state championship series, Hubbard went 6-0 on the mound and added a .340 batting average with 13 2Bs and 2 HRs at the plate. INF Austin Scobey (2025), OF Rusty McDonald (2025), and SS/RHP Kaden Parrish (2025) headline a star group of returning seniors who all hit in the heart of the order for the Eagles last spring. Scobey stole 38 bases and was named the MVP for the Class 1A State Finals, while McDonald and Parrish both made huge impacts offensively and will look to drive in plenty of runs this spring. LHP/1B Colton Glass (2028) was named to Class 1A 2nd Team All-State as an eighth-grader last season and should only continue to improve this season. Now a freshman, Glass went 6-1 with a 0.90 ERA on the mound while also hitting .316 in batting average. OF Jonah Marshall (2025) is another senior to watch for this spring, as his role should increase going into 2025.
Sumiton Christian proved they were the best team in Class 1A for the entirety of the 2024 season with a dominant campaign from start to finish. The competition raises this spring, as they'll compete in Class 2A, Area 11 against Cold Springs, Falkville, and Winston County for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Looking to make a big splash in Class 2A, the Eagles will certainly be a team to watch this spring as they look to go back-to-back in 2025.
