Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Valley Rams are coming off a historic 2024 campaign that featured an appearance in the Final 4 of the Class 5A playoffs and an impressive 29-8 record. Easily of their best seasons program history, the Rams will have some work to do to fill the shows of Jackson Sanders, but appear to have the returning pieces on both sides of the ball to replicate another strong spring like last year.

Much like last season, the Rams should boast a quality pitching staff featuring players who can impact the game both at the plate and on the mound as two-way players. Last season, the Rams went on an incredible postseason playoff run after clinching an area championship in the regular season. Facing some of the top teams in Class 5A in the playoffs, the Rams defeated Elberta, St. Paul's Episcopal, and Holtville to punch their ticket to the Class 5A semifinals. Hosting Mobile Christian at home, the Rams ultimately fell to the hands of the Leopards in a thrilling two-game set to close out their season with a 26-7 record. Turning the page to 2025, the Rams look ready to attempt to replicate last year's success with six positional starters and five pitchers returning to this year's team. Leading it off, RHP/INF Seth Hammock (2025) will play a vital role for the Rams this spring, especially on the mound. In his junior campaign, the right-hander logged 44.1 IP and compiled 44 Ks and a 3.47 ERA in the process. INF Ty Monteith (2025) is another returning senior enjoyed a quality junior season and is looking primed to build off of it in 2025. An important piece to their offense, Monteith hit .270 and sported a .417 OBP. SS/RHP Matthew McDonald (2026) will continue to see his workload increase this spring after playing a crucial part of their success both at the plate and on the mound last season. As a sophomore in 2024, McDonald hit .260 with 13 SBs, while also logging 22.1 IP and accumulating a 2.78 ERA. OF/C Mason Yarbrough (2027) should also slot in the middle of the order for the Rams this spring, as he is coming off of a freshman season where he hit .307 offensively. A few more underclassmen to watch for in 2025 will be 3B/RHP Logan Seymour (2027) and C/RHP Bryant Hopkins (2027). Seymour saw limited time the mound as a freshman last spring and experienced success with a 0.60 ERA in 12 IP, while Hopkins has a bright future ahead and look ready to make an impact in some capacity this spring.

Expectations continue to be high for the Rams program as they enter the 2025 season with a strong mix of returning talent on both sides of the ball back from last year's Final 4 team. They'll compete in Class 5A, Area 6 against Beauregard and Elmore County for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Look for Valley to continue to build off of their momentum in 2025 created from last year's historic season in Class 5A.
