Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Washington County Bulldogs made significant strides during the 2024 season, finishing with a 17-17 record and advancing to the Sweet 16 of the Class 2A playoffs. With nearly all of their key offensive players and several important pitchers returning, the Bulldogs are poised to build on the momentum they created last season.

As the 2024 area champions, the Bulldogs hosted the first round of the playoffs against Luverne. Although the series went to a decisive third game, they managed to secure the win and move on to the Sweet 16. In their matchup against Reeltown, the Bulldogs took Game 1 with a 7-4 victory, but dropped Games 2 and 3, ultimately finishing their season at 17-17. The narrow loss, just one win shy of an Elite 8 appearance, has to leave both the coaching staff and players eager for this year. With eight returning starters and four pitchers, they have a solid foundation to work from. Key returners include LHP/OF CJ Jordan (2025) and RHP/C Ian Powell (2025), two seniors who have been impact players on both sides of the game. Jordan, who led the team with 68 strikeouts, posted a 1.58 ERA on the mound while also hitting .364 at the plate. Powell, a standout hitter with a .396 average and a team-leading 5 home runs, also contributed on the mound with a 1.75 ERA. Another important returner is RHP/1B Landon Dearmon (2026), who led the team in batting with a .405 average as a sophomore while posting a solid 2.97 ERA on the mound. A couple of seniors to keep an eye on this season are SS Brayden Bell (2025) and 3B/C Jack Odom (2025), both of whom were nearly .300 hitters in 2024. Additionally, INF/RHP Myles Thornton (2027) and LHP/OF Conner Williams (2027) are promising underclassmen who will look to continue their development after strong freshman campaigns. Thornton, who led the team in fielding percentage, also hit .325, while Williams contributed offensively with a .310 average. With a talented mix of returning veterans and promising young talent, the Bulldogs are well-positioned to make another run this season.

Hoping to build off of a strong 2024 season that saw them one win away from the Class 2A quarterfinals, the Bulldogs return some familiar faces and look poised for another quality season. They'll compete in Class 2A, Area 1 against Bayshore Christian, Clarke County, JU Blacksher, and St. Luke's Episcopal for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Expect the Bulldogs to be a quality, experienced club with veterans on both sides of the ball in 2025.
