2025 Wetumpka Indians Team Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in the Jacksonville/Oxford/Montgomery area at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason top-10 rankings in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state.

Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week, updating the top-10 ranks in each AHSAA classification, as well updating our Power 25 overall rankings. One thing, especially, you don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state, as well as the recaps and previews of the big games we’re covering.

*Please note the information has been gathered from head coaches across the state, based on their replies to the questionnaire we distributed over this offseason.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Wetumpka Indians are coming off another strong season in 2024 after reaching the Elite 8 in Class 6A and winning over 20 games once again. Expectations are high again this season with some key returners coming back on both sides of the ball and many of those players having key experience at the varsity level, especially playing in the later rounds of the playoffs. Finishing in the quarterfinals in a deep Class 6A a season ago, the Indians have high hopes of reaching the late rounds again this season.

Really seeming to hit their stride down the stretch in the regular season, the Indians appeared to be playing their best baseball during area play and into the playoffs. Capturing another area championship with a perfect area record, the Indians were able to sweep Brookwood in the 1st round and won a thrilling Game 3 over Benjamin Russell to punch their ticket to the Elite 8. Matching up with Spanish Fort, the Toros were able to defeat the Indians in two game to close out their season with a strong 24-16 record. Long-time assistant coach Russ Brooks takes over the reigns of the program this spring and is excited about this year's team and the future of the Indians program. With four positional starters and two pitchers coming back this season, the Indians are hoping they can replicate last year's success by playing their best baseball down the stretch. SS Mason Fuller (Lurleen B. Wallace CC, 2025) hit towards the top of their order last spring and should once again be a key piece to their offense and defense. Fuller is multi-year starter who hit over .330 in batting average as a junior in 2024. The class of 2026 looks to be strong for the Indians, as many of those players gained valuable experience playing last year as sophomores. C Logan Fawcett (2026) is one of the better catchers in the junior class in Alabama and has power hitting from the left side of the plate. The backstop looks poised for another big season after hitting over .330 in batting average last season. UTL Aiden Peak (2026) played every game last year for the Indians and has plenty of defensive versatility. He played numerous positions last spring and is a really good athlete. LHP Asher Nobles (2026) and LHP Owen Pyles (2026) are a pair of junior southpaws who will be counted on heavily on the mound this spring. Nobles saw valuable time on the bump as a sophomore last spring, while Pyles has lots of potential to be a key arm for Wetumpka this spring. UTL/RHP Tyler Johnson (2025) is a physical potential middle-of-the-order hitter for the Indians who should be relied on for production both at the plate and on the mound this season, while INF/RHP Miller Lombardi (2027) and LHP Dylan Jordan (2028) are a pair of underclassmen who have a chance to make solid contributions at the varsity level for the Indians in 2025.

Wetumpka has consistently been one of the top programs in the central part of the state in Class 6A for quite some time now, and it appears the 2025 campaign is shaping up to be another successful one. They'll compete in Class 6A, Area 3 against Percy Julian and Stanhope Elmore for a spot in the playoffs at the end of the regular season. Expect the Indians to be right back in the playoffs at the end of the season with another chance of making a deep run in Class 6A in 2025.
