Alabama Diamond Notes: Week 1


Prep Baseball Alabama Staff

The Alabama Diamond Notes will showcase standout performances from across the state, based on nominations from high school coaches. Each Wednesday throughout the high school season, we will recognize position players, pitchers, and two-way players who delivered impressive performances during their team's games. A special thank you to the many coaches who submitted nominations this week. The following stats reflect games played from February 13th-22nd.

Sage Bennett SS / 2B / Boaz, AL / 2027

The sophomore was 6-8 (.750) with a run driven in for the Pirates. He also waked three times and scored three runs. 

Tabor Offord LHP / OF / Saint James, AL / 2025

The Lurleen B. Wallace CC recruit was 6-12 (.500) with a homerun, triple and two doubles. He stole four bases, drove in two runs and scored four runs as well.  

Zackary Johnson C / OF / Bob Jones, AL / 2025

The Alabama recruit continues to hit at an extremely high level (7A Hitter of the Year in 2024) for the 7A No. 3 Patriots. Last week he was 10-24 (.417) with a homerun and eight runs driven in. He also walked twice and scored two runs. 

Cole Spanier 3B / RHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2026

Spanier, an uncommitted junior, was 8-19 (.421) with a double and five runs driven in. He also walked eight times and had a stolen base while scoring four runs. 

Brayden Entrekin OF / LHP / Russellville, AL / 2028

The freshman was 7-17 (.412) with three doubles and six runs scored. He also walked five times. On the mound, he tossed 11 innings and did not allow an earned run. He gave up only five hits while striking out ten opposing hitters. 

Conner Nelson C / SS / Leeds, AL / 2025

For the week, Nelson was 8-12 (.750) with a double, triple and homerun for the 5A No. 9 Greenwave. He was also 2-0 on the mound allowing one hit over six innings pitched. He allowed one earned run and struck out 12 opposing hitters.

Hunter Stallings SS / OF / Cedar Bluff High School, AL / 2025

Stallings had a terrific week with the bat as he went 13-21 (.619) with two doubles, one triple and a homerun. He also drove in 15 runs for the Tigers. 

Bradley Irish RHP / OF / St Paul's Episcopal, AL / 2025

Irish, a Pensacola State CC recruit, tossed a complete game (7 IP) shutout against an outstanding Fairhope team. He allowed four hits and only walked two. He did not allow a run and struck out ten. 

Jack Doyle RHP / OF / Madison Academy, AL / 2025

Doyle, a UAH recruit, turned in a complete game shutout on Saturday against Russellville. He struck out seven and allowed only one hit as he needed only 84 pitches over the full seven innings. 

Tyler Pierce RHP / SS / Boaz, AL / 2025

Pierce got the win against Scottsboro as he tossed five scoreless innings on the mound. The West Alabama football recruit (QB) allowed four hits and struck out seven.  

Charlie Cutler RHP / 1B / Saint James School, AL / 2026

Culter, an uncommitted junior, got off to a 2-0 start on the mound for 3A No. 4 Saint James. He tossed 12 innings off 3-hit baseball and did not allow an earned run. The righthander struck out 15 and walked four. 

Gus Whatley RHP / Indian Springs, AL / 2026

An uncommitted junior, Whatley picked up a win this week versus Isabella as he went six innings on the mound. He struck out eight and allowed only four hits. 

Skylar Tucker LHP / 1B / Lauderdale County, AL / 2025

The Bevill State CC recruit was dominant in his start last week as he tossed a no-hitter versus West Limestone. He walked only one while striking out 16 and needed only 84 pitches to go the distance. 

Tanner Hermesch RHP / 3B / Bob Jones, AL / 2025

A Shelton State CC recruit, Hermesch started his senior season in dominating fashion as he finished the week 2-0 with two complete game shutouts. He tossed a total of ten innings (including a no-hitter) only allowing three hits over that span. He issued two walks and struck out 17. Opposing hitters hit only .088 against him.
