Alabama Diamond Notes: Week 5

The Alabama Diamond Notes will showcase standout performances from across the state, based on nominations from high school coaches. Each Wednesday throughout the high school season, we will recognize position players, pitchers, and two-way players who delivered impressive performances during their team's games. A special thank you to the many coaches who submitted nominations this week. The following stats reflect games played from March 17th - 22nd.

Sage Bennett SS / 2B / Boaz, AL / 2027Bennett, a sophomore, was 6-17 (.857) last week with two home runs, two triples and a double for the Pirates. He also drove in seven runs during his monstrous offensive week. |

Alex Brewer 1B / RHP / Southside, AL / 2026The uncommitted junior was 4-7 (.571) last week to help Southside improve their overall record to 17-3. Brewer had two home runs and a double as he drove in seven runs. He also walked four times to finish the week with a .727 OBP. |

Wyatt Wallace RHP / 1B / Lindsay Lane Christian Academy, AL / 2028The freshman hit .538 (7-13) last week with two home runs and five runs driven in. He also earned a complete-game shutout win (3-0) over Lauderdale County as he went all seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out ten. |

Hudson Smith C / SS / James Clemens, AL / 2027The sophomore went 7-12 (.583) last week as the Jets continue their winning ways over the last few weeks. Smith had two doubles and drove in seven runs. He also scored three runs and reached base three more times via BB/HBP. |

Matthew Drinkwater 3B / RHP / James Clemens, AL / 2026Drinkwater, an uncommitted two-way prospect, was 6-15 (.444) last week with two doubles and three runs driven in. He scored four times and also swiped three bases. |

Cole Spanier 3B / RHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2026The uncommitted junior was 4-9 (.444) last week as he also walked six times and was hit-by-pitch once. Spanier had a triple and a double while driving in two runs and stealing three bases. |

Skylar Johnston C / RHP / Sheffield High School, AL / 2025An uncommitted senior, Johnston was 8-17 (.471) last week for the Bulldogs. He had a home run while driving in 11 runs and stealing eight bases. On the mound, he was 1-0 with nine strikeouts in a complete game win. |

Jacob O'Bryan OF / Gulf Shores, AL / 2026O'Bryan, an uncommitted junior, finds his name on the list again this week after going 9-13 (.692) last week for the Dolphins. He had five doubles and drove in seven runs while scoring seven runs as well. He also had six stolen bases and ended the week with a .714 OBP. |

Judson Harris SS / RHP / Gulf Shores, AL / 2027The sophomore had a big week with the bat as he went 7-11 (.636) last week for the Dolphins. He had a triple and drove in seven runs and also scored four more times. Harris, who doubles as a QB in football, also stole four bases. |

Levi Howard SS / RHP / Gulf Shores, AL / 2026An uncommitted senior infielder, Howard was 7-12 (.583) a week ago with two doubles and three runs driven in. He also scored six times, walked twice and stole three bases. |

Luke Hudson 3B / OF / Arab, AL / 2026Hudson was 4-11 (.364) last week for the Knights. The uncommitted junior outfielder had two doubles and drove in seven runs. He also scored three times and swiped two bases. |

Ty Bedell OF / 2B / Leeds, AL / 2025A recent Chipola commitment, the senior INF/OF was 10-16 (.625) last week for the 5A No. 10 Greenwave. He had two doubles and a triple while scoring nine times. Bedell also stole four bases. |

Jacob Calvin 3B / Leeds, AL / 2025The uncommitted senior was 7-17 (.412) last week with two doubles and two home runs with seven runs driven in. One of Calvin's home runs was a walk-off winner in the Greenwave's win over Pell City. |

Andrew Beaverson RHP / 1B / Hazel Green, AL / 2026The uncommitted junior continues to put up huge offensive numbers in 2025 for the 6A No. 8 Trojans. Last week he was 5-8 (.625) with two doubles and two home runs. Beaverson drove in seven runs, walked twice and stole two bases. |

Tanner Hermesch RHP / 3B / Bob Jones, AL / 2025The Shelton State CC recruit starred in a two-way role last week for the 7A No. 3 Patriots. He was 1-0 on the mound as he turned in a complete game (7 IP) shutout against Houston (TN). He allowed only one hit and struck out 14. Offensively, Hermesch was 5-11 (.455) with two doubles and a triple. He drove in a run and scored three times. |

Abe Martin SS / RHP / Southside, AL / 2026Martin, an uncommitted junior, was 1-0 with a save last week for the Panthers. He tossed a total of five innings and allowed one hit and no runs. He struck out eight as opposing hitters only hit .067 against him. |

Dawson Cambron SS / RHP / New Hope, AL / 2025An uncommitted senior, Cambron was 1-0 last week as the Indians swept an area series against DAR. He turned in a complete game (6 IP) gem as he allowed only two hits while striking out 13. He did not walk anyone and did not allow an earned run. |

Tyler Lewis OF / LHP / James Clemens High School, AL / 2026Lewis was 1-0 last week as he turned in a complete game win for the Jets. He tossed seven innings of four-hit baseball and did not allow an earned run. The uncommitted junior southpaw struck out four. |

Camden Martin SS / RHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2025Martin, an uncommitted senior, continues to produce in a two-way role for the 7A No. Patriots. Last week on the mound he turned in a complete game (7 IP) win by scattering four hits and allowing two earned runs. He struck out four during the outing. |

Graham Segraves RHP / OF / Bob Jones, AL / 2027The sophomore went 1-0 last week tossing six innings on the mound. Seagraves scattered six hits and did not allow a run while striking out five opposing hitters. |

Hayden Brazil RHP / Gulf Shores, AL / 2025In two relief appearances for the Dolphins last week, Brazil went 1-0 with a save. He worked a total of five innings on the mound while scattering four hits. He only walked two and allowed one earned run while striking out three. |

Luke Martin 1B / RHP / Arab, AL / 2026Martin, an uncommitted junior, was magnificent in a 3-1 area win last week for the Knights. He turned in a complete-game win (7 IP) allowing just one earned run with a strikeout. He walked only two over seven innings. |

Conner Nelson C / SS / Leeds, AL / 2025An uncommitted senior, Nelson was 1-0 last week for the 5A No. 10 Greenwave. He tossed 6.2 innings on the mound allowing one hit and three earned runs. He walked eight and struck out 15 opposing hitters. |
