South AL Preseason All-State: Quick Hits, Outfielders
January 16, 2025
ORANGE BEACH, AL - The South AL Preseason All-State, one of the top events of the year, was held on Sunday, January 12th at Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, AL. This event was an invite-only event that consisted of prospects from the 2025-2029 classes. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 60-yard dash using VALD Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Sunday.
Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we continue our Quick Hits edition by highlighting some of the top outfielders in attendance at the event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release other leaderboards and individual scouting reports on each player present at the event.

Clayton Rice OF / American Christian, AL / 2026Rankings StateRank: 24 / POS: 4
Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 189-pounds. Strong, mature build with proportional strength. One of the top outfielders in the 2026 class in AL and ranked inside the top-25 overall. A "pick to click" for our staff this upcoming high school season, Rice kicked off his 2025 campaign with another standout showing at this past weekend's event and emerged as arguably the top outfielder in attendance. Possesses an impressive set of tools across the board with a quality combination of strength and athleticism. Gap-to-gap left-handed hitter with some present physicality and more to come. Has an efficient swing with good balance throughout the swing. Mostly upward path through contact and does a good job of generating strength from the ground-up using a strong lower-half, allowing him to impact the baseball to the pull-side. Simple offensive operation with not much wasted movements. Quick load for timing trigger and has some bat speed. Consistent barrels to the pull-side during his round of BP, posting a top EV of 95.2 mph and a max estimated distance of 344 ft. A corner outfielder, Rice has above-average arm strength peaking at 87 mph during the defensive workout, and showcased some athleticism running a 6.92 60-yard dash. There's plenty to like in terms of a left-handed hitting corner outfielder with physicality and some athleticism. High-level name to follow this spring.

Houston Hartsfield OF / LHP / Briarwood Christian, AL / 2026Rankings StateRank: 66 / POS: 5
Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 167-pounds. Lean, wiry build with solid athleticism. Real "stock-up" performance at this event showcasing some intriguing two-way ability both at the plate and on the mound. Offensively, the left-hander uses a balanced, athletic stance that produces a quick, accurate swing with present feel to drive firm contact to all parts of the field. More line-drive approach right now, with ability to unlock some future power with added strength down the road. Showcased some of the best bat speed at the event, averaging 76.7 mph per Blast Motion. Controls the barrel well through the zone and has a repeatable left-handed stroke. On the mound, there may be just as much upside and ability as the left-handed bat that our staff had not seen up until this event. Pitching from a hybrid, up-tempo delivery, Hartsfield flooded the zone with a quality three-pitch mix throughout his bullpen. Peaking at 85.3 mph with the fastball, the southpaw consistently ranged 81-85 mph with natural arm-side run and occasional sink to the pitch. Sitting 73-75 mph with sharp, late action, the slider was easily the best pitch in the arsenal, as it averaged 10.2 in. of horizontal movement and -4.0 in. of induced vertical break with an average of 2317 RPM. He showcased some innate ability to spin it and land it to multiple parts of the zone, and looked like a potential wipeout secondary offering. The changeup, ranging 77-78 mph, showed some killed-spin and diving action to it, averaging 1509 RPM and -3.9 in. of horizontal movement. The southpaw possesses a quick H 3/4 arm action coming out of an easy, athletic operation with quality, athletic movements throughout. High-level name to follow this spring.

Evan Money OF / Headland, AL / 2028Rankings StateRank: 17 / POS: 4
Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 160-pounds. Athletic, wiry build with future room to add. The No. 17-ranked prospect in the 2028 class in AL and continued to boost his stock with a stellar showing at this event. Advanced offensive ability with one of the better swings in the freshman class. Hits from an upright, narrow stance and gains ground forward using a quick toe-tap trigger for timing. Swing works on a clean, level path through the zone while showing some ability to lag the right-handed barrel. Turns the barrel with some good intent using a strong top-hand and routinely found the barrel during his round of BP, peaking at a 92.2 mph EV. Defensively, the outfielder has some athleticism and should continue to improve, but already possesses a strong arm from the outfield, peaking at 89 mph on throws to the plate from right field. Moves well laterally and fields the ball cleanly. Also recorded an 83.64 Edge Score, which was fifth-best from the event. Certainly a talented prospect to keep close tabs on moving forward over the next couple of years.

Riley Wilemon OF / RHP / Faith Academy, AL / 2026Rankings StateRank: 62 / POS: 13
Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 182-pounds. Lean strength with athleticism and quick-twitch. A talented, high-level two-way prospect who showcased one of the better collection of tools from the event ranking near the top of most statistical categories. Offensively, the right-hander starts slightly-open and works back to square using a a short, simple stride while creating some separation with the hands. Possesses fast hands (22.9 mph avg.) and a quick barrel (73.5 mph avg.) allowing him to handle mutliple parts of the zone and turn the barrel on the inner-half pitch with ease. Mostly pull-side approach, as he looks to tap into strength and lift with some authority to the gap. Has an athletic, efficient swing that routinely found the barrel during his round of BP, peaking at a 97.3 mph EV. Showcased impressive arm strength from the outfield working up to 91 mph, an event-best, and also clocked a 7.11 60-yard dash. On the mound, he possesses a quick, up-tempo delivery and drives down the slope aggressively with a quick, over-the-top arm slot. Sitting 85-86 mph and peaking at 86.1 mph, the right-hander back-spins the fastball well with an average of 2401 RPM allowing the pitch to have plenty of late life. Spins two breaking balls, one being a 74-75 mph curveball (2415 RPM; -16.1 in. avg. horizontal movement) and the other a 73-74 mph slider (2360 RPM; -14.8 in. avg. horizontal movement). Both have sharp, hard action with swing-and-miss traits when located around the zone. Also turned over a power changeup at 82-83 mph with some fading action. Control over command right now, but still an intriguing four-pitch mix and high-level two-way ability.
