PBR Alabama Staff

Wednesday, March 6

Buckhorn scores 5 runs in the last 2 innings to top Sparkman.

On a cold night in New Market, Buckhorn overcame a 4 run deficit in the last two innings as the Bucks were able to push across the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 7th. Buckhorn starting pitcher Cameron Stewart did a masterful job in his 3 2/3 innings of work allowing 3 runs (2 earned) and only giving up one hit. He struck out 4, walked 3 and hit one batter. Junior Blake Burgess came on in relief of Stewart with 2 outs and 2 on in the 4th and got out of the jam with a strikeout. Burgess would finish the game for the Bucks and earn the win scattering 4 hits over the final 3 1/3 innings. He gave up 4 runs (all earned) while striking out 7 and allowing 3 free passes (2 BB, 1HP).  Sparkman starting pitcher Collin Newman went 3 innings, allowing 2 hits and 3 runs (all earned) and struck out 4. He was relieved in the 4th inning by Ben Ratley who only allowed 1 hit over 2 2/3 innings while striking out 5 Bucks hitters and giving up 4 runs. None of those runs were earned. Denver Betts took over with 2 outs in the 6th and was able to get the 3rd out of the inning and keep the game scoreless to the 7th. In all, Sparkman pitchers walked 13 hitters on the night. Offensively, Sparkman took advantage of the long ball as both Betts and junior Cole Strachan had 3 run homeruns for the Senators. 2021 grad AJ Causey had a double for the Senators as well. For the Bucks, Burgess has a clutch 2 out 2 RBI single to tie the game in the sixth and junior Logan Malone also had a single for the Bucks. Another junior, Dylan Paseur had a single and 2 walks in 3 plate appearances.
