Opelika 4 Beauregard 1

Opelika scored 3 runs in the 5^th inning and added an insurance run in the 6^th inning to defeat Beauregard 4-1 on Saturday at Opelika High School. Opelika starting pitcher JT McArdle went 4 innings on the mound for the Bulldogs and only allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run. The sophomore allowed only 1 walk while striking out 4 hitters. Senior BT Thomas relieved McArdle and went 3 innings and picked up the win in relief. He allowed 3 hits and did not give up a run while striking out 1 hitter and walking 2. Beauregard went with senior Trey Watson and the right hander provided a quality start for the Hornets. He went 5 innings giving up 3 runs, although none of those runs were earned. He had allowed 6 hits while walking 1 to go along with 3 strikeouts. Sophomore Ethan Pooler threw the 6^th inning and allowed 1 earned run on 1 hit as he also had 1 strikeout and 1 base on balls. Beauregard jumped out to an early lead in the 1^st inning as leadoff hitter Cameron Hodges walked to start the game and later scored on an RBI groundout off Watson’s bat. That would be all the scoring until the bottom of the 5^th as Beauregard scored 3 runs to take a 3-1 lead. Paul Goodman singled to start the inning and Julian Duke got on by an error. Latrell Gullatte followed with a perfect drag bunt to load the bases with no outs. With 1 out, senior Andrew Parr delivered a sac fly to knot things up at 1 apiece. Sophomore Jackson Harris would then deliver a 2 RBI 2B to put Opelika up 3-1. The Bulldogs added an insurance run in the bottom of the 6^th inning on an RBI 2B by Duke. He drove in Goodman, who walked earlier in the inning. Things got interesting in the top of the 7^th as Beauregard loaded the bases with 2 outs but Opelika got a pick off to end the threat.

Note: Beauregard defeated Handley 9-2 later in the day while Opelika also defeated Handley 10-0.
