Alabama Diamond Notes: Week 6


PBR Alabama Staff

The Alabama Diamond Notes will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday of the high school season that had impressive weeks during their team's games. Special thank you to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

Aidan Cook OF / 3B / James Clemens, AL / 2024

Cook was 6-for-13 (.462 BA) this week with two doubles. The uncommitted junior drove in two runs and scored two runs as well. He also walked once, was hit-by-pitch once and had a .533 OBP. 

Nathan Guyse 1B / 3B / James Clemens, AL / 2023

The uncommitted senior continues to produce for the Jets with the bat. For the week he was 5-for-13 (.417 BA) with two doubles while driving in four runs. He scored three runs while walking once and getting hit-by-pitch once. Guyse had a .583 OBP. 

Cam Warren SS / OF / Saraland , AL / 2024

Warren went 5.0 innings on the mound getting a complete game win while only allowing two hits. He allowed one earned run and struck out 11 hitters. In the same day he was 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple while driving in four runs. He also scored four runs to go with two stolen bases. 

Nathan Adcock 3B / 2B / New Hope, AL / 2023

The senior infielder was 5-for-7 (.714 BA) this week with a double. Adcock drove in two runs while also drawing two walks and was hit-by-pitch once. He had a .778 OBP for the week. 

Eathan Sumner 3B / RHP / New Hope, AL / 2023

Sumner, a senior infielder and right-handed pitcher, was 4-for-7 (.571 BA) this week with a double and two runs driven in. He also reached once by walk and was hit-by-pitch once (.667 OBP).

Owen Garrison 2B / SS / Arab , AL / 2023

The senior infielder was 6-for-14 (.429 BA) with five runs driven in this week for the 5A No. 4 Knights. He was just as effective on the mound as he was 2-0 after throwing eight innings during the week. He allowed eight hits and only two runs while striking out nine and not walking a hitter. 

Drew Puccio SS / 2B / Arab , AL / 2025

Hitting out of the leadoff spot for the 23-6 Knights, Puccio was 8-for-17 (.471 BA) for the week with five stolen bases. The sophomore also drove in three runs and scored nine times. 

Carson Creehan 1B / OF / Madison Academy, AL / 2023

The UNA Football signee has been instrumental in the Mustangs late season surge as this week he was 9-for-14 (.474 BA) with a double, a triple and two home runs. He also drove in seven runs during the week. 

Colin Patterson RHP / 1B / West Limestone , AL / 2023

The UAB signee turned in another brilliant outing on the mound as he went six innings, only allowing two hits while not surrendering a run. He had ten strikeouts in a 2-0 win over Elkmont. On the same day, he went 3-for-4 while tying an AHSAA record with three triples in one game.  

Braxton Griffin 3B / OF / West Limestone, AL / 2024

The junior infielder was 7-for-16 (.438 BA) this week with a double and a triple while driving in four runs and scoring six runs as well. On the mound, the uncommitted junior was 1-0 with a complete-game win in five innings while only allowing two hits and giving up one earned run. Griffin struck out eight hitters. 

Joseph Stephens SS / RHP / Gulf Shores, AL / 2024

The junior infielder was 4-for-8 (.500 BA) with a double and four runs driven in. He also scored three runs and walked four times as well. Stephens also stole a base and had a .667 OBP for the week. 

Brendon Byrd OF / LHP / Gulf Shores, AL / 2023

The senior outfielder was 5-for-11 (.455 BA) during the week with with a run batted in and a stolen base. He was also walked one time and was hit-by-pitch once to to finish with a .538 OBP for the week. 

ZacH Chaney C / 2B / Priceville , AL / 2023

The UT-Southern signee continues to swing the bat well for the 4A No. 2 Bulldogs. Chaney was 8-for-15 (.533 BA) with two doubles and a home run. He also drove in eight runs and scored nine more. The senior was 6/6 on stolen bases with five walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Jackson Prickett SS / RHP / Priceville, AL / 2023

The uncommitted senior hit an even .500 (8-for-16) for the week with four doubles and 11 runs batted in while scoring seven runs as well. He was also a perfect 3/3 on stolen bases. On the mound, Prickett earned a complete-game win in five innings, allowing two hits and no runs with six strikeouts. 

Joseph Garrison RHP / 1B / Priceville, AL / 2023

The Troy signee got a complete-game win as he allowed only one earned run on four hits while striking out thirteen hitters. Garrison was also 6-for-16 (.375 BA) during the week with a Grand Slam. 

Thomas Kerby LHP / 1B / Priceville, AL / 2023

The uncommitted senior southpaw got a complete-game win in five innings as he allowed only four hits during that span while striking out 11 opposing hitters. Offensively, Kerby had two home runs during the week. 

Jake Thornton RHP / 3B / Madison County , AL / 2024

Thornton, a junior, was 7-for-15 (.467 BA) which included two doubles. He drove in three runs and scored three more runs while reaching base at a .579 clip for the week. 

Ryan Caudle OF / Madison County, AL / 2023

The senior outfielder was 8-for-18 (.444 BA) hitting out of the leadoff spot for the Tigers. He had a double and six stolen bases while scoring four runs for the week. His OBP was .500 for the week. 

Barret Rodgers 1B / LHP / Northridge, AL / 2023

Rodgers, an uncommitted senior, continues to produce for the 6A No. 6 Jaguars.This week he was 7-for-13 (.538 BA) with a home run and a double. He drove in nine runs and scored six additional runs. He also walked three times during the week.  

Tylan Amerson SS / Minor, AL / 2023

Amerson finds his name on the list again this week after going 9-for-11 (.818 BA) with four runs driven in. He also walked three times and stole eight bases for the Tigers.

Preston Chenoweth RHP / James Clemens, AL / 2023

The senior right-hander started two games this week and went a combined six innings on the mound, allowing only one hit. He did not allow a run while striking out five as opposing hitters hit only .053 against him. 

Mason Busch RHP / OF / James Clemens, AL / 2024

The uncommitted junior was 1-0 this week as he got a complete game win, going seven innings while not allowing a run. He struck out eight hitters while only walking one.

Luke Davenport RHP / 3B / James Clemens, AL / 2024

The Auburn commit continues to give the Jets a front line arm at the top of their rotation as he finds his name on this list yet again. The junior was 1-0 this week as opposing hitters only hit .190 against him. He tossed five innings of shutout baseball with nine strikeouts and only one walk. 

Jack Doyle RHP / 3B / Madison Academy, AL / 2025

The sophomore gave the 5A No. 10 Mustangs a brilliant start in their 4-0 victory over Piedmont on Friday. Doyle went 5.2 innings and only allowed one hit (bunt) while striking out eleven hitters. 

Branson Honea RHP / 3B / Boaz , AL / 2023

Honea, an uncommitted senior, went 1-0 this week with a complete-game win in a 7-1 Pirate victory over John Carroll. He allowed only four hits and did not allow an earned run and did not walk anyone. He struck out six hitters in his outing. 

Bo Hester 3B / RHP / Boaz, AL / 2023

Hester went 1-0 this week as he got a complete-game win in six innings over Normal West (IL). He scattered five hits and allowed only one earned run. He did not issue a walk and struck out four hitters. 

Jake Johnson RHP / LHP / Headland, AL / 2023

Johnson, an uncommitted senior, tossed nine innings during the week. The interesting fact is that he threw six innings as a right handed pitcher while throwing three innings as a left handed pitcher. For the week he struck out a total of 15 hitters for the 5A No. 1 Rams. 

Bryce Gover RHP / 3B / Headland, AL / 2025

Gover, a sophomore, went six innings against 7A No. 2 Central-Phenix City and was the tough luck loser in a 2-1 game. He allowed only one earned run while scattering six hits. 

Chase Cartron LHP / 1B / Huntsville, AL / 2024

The Troy commit turned in a brilliant performance on the mound in the Panthers win over 7A No. 5 Bob Jones. Although he got a no-decision, Carton went 6.2 innings and only allowed three hits and three earned runs. The southpaw struck out five hitters. 

Benjamin Arn LHP / 1B / Bob Jones, AL / 2023

The uncommitted senior went 1-0 this week as he got a complete-game win in six innings while not allowing a run. He only allowed two walks while scattering four hits to go with 11 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .174 against him.
