Alabama Diamond Notes: Week 8

The Alabama Diamond Notes is a new feature for 2022 that will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance. 

Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

Check out our scout blog HERE for games our staff was able to get out and see last week.

For now, let's take a look at those players from across the state highlighted in this week's Alabama Diamond Notes. 

This will be the final Diamond Notes for the 2022 season. 

 

DIAMOND NOTES (APRIL 11-16)

Caleb Johnson SS / RHP / Central Phenix City, AL / 2022

The Jacksonville State signee hit .700 (7-10) during the week as the 7A No. 2 Red Devils won an important area series over Auburn. Johnson had a double, five stolen bases and also scored five runs.

Jax Yoxtheimer OF / RHP / Central Phenix City, AL / 2023

The uncommitted junior had a big week in a two-way role, helping the Red Devils improve to 24-8 on the season. With the bat, "Yox" was 5-9 (.556 BA) with two doubles. He also got a complete game win on the mound iin the important G3 as he allowed only two runs and four hits. He struck out seven. 

Matthew Pearson 2B / SS / Shelby County, AL / 2022

Pearson had a big week for the 5A No. 1 Wildcats as he was 7-8 (.875 BA) during the week with one triple and one home run. The senior also drove in six runs and scored two runs as well. 

Colton Pahman 1B / RHP / Faith Christian , AL / 2022

Pahman led Faith Christian this week in a two-way role as the senior was 7-15 (.467 BA) with one triple and two doubles. He drove in 11 runs and scored five runs while walking three time to go along wth three stolen bases. On the mound, the uncommitted senior was 2-0 (9 IP) and did not allow an earned run. He struck out nine hitters and allowed six hits. 

Davis Gillespie 3B / RHP / Oak Mountain, AL / 2022

Gillespie played an important role for the Eagles this week in their key 7A area series win. He was called on twice on the mound late in both games to hold the lead as he went three innings between both stints to gain two saves, striking out six hitters. The Southern Miss recruit also delivered a big two-run home run in G2 to stretch out the Eagle lead.  

Mason Holloway OF / 2B / Hamilton, AL / 2027

Holloway, a seventh-grader, was 5-7 (.714 BA) for the 4A No. 5 Aggies. The OF/2B drove in two runs and scored three runs as well. He walked twice while also stealing a base. 

Payton Purser 3B / RHP / Hamilton , AL / 2024

The sophomore finds his name on the list again as he helped the Aggies improve to 21-9, headed into the state playoffs. Purser hit .550 (4-8) on the week with four runs batted in and three runs scored. He also got the win in G2 of the area series as he went four innings and did not allow a run while scattering three hits. 

Bryant Loving SS / Hamilton, AL / 2023

The uncommitted junior was 5-11 (.455 BA) on the week with one home run and five runs driven in. He also scored four runs and stole two bases. On the mound, he got a complete game win (7 IP) in G3 of the area series as he struck out eight hitters and did not allow a walk. He scattered six hits and did not allow an earned run. 

Alex Wade OF / RHP / Madison Academy, AL / 2022

Wade, an Auburn signee, continues to enjoy a banner season as the 5A No. 5 Mustangs prepare for the 1st round of the state playoffs this weekend. For the week, Wade was 4-8 (.500 BA) with two doubles and two home runs. He also drove in seven runs, scored six runs and had two stolen bases. 

Marc Stephens SS / RHP / Gulf Shores , AL / 2022

The Mississippi Gulf Coast CC signee once again finds his name on the list as he hit .500 (5-10) during the week for the 6A No. 3 Dolphins. He had a double and drove in four runs. He also scored five runs and walked once. 

Joseph Stephens RHP / Gulf Shores , AL / 2024

Stephens, a sophomore, helped the Dolphins improve to 27-4 by going 4-6 (.667 BA) during the week with a double while driving in four runs. He also walked twice and scored four runs. 

Dominic Maldet C / Gulf Shores, AL / 2023

The uncommitted junior continues to perform at a high level behind the plate and with the bat. Maldet was 7-11 (.636 BA) this week with two doubles. He also drove in six runs and had a stolen base for the 6A No. 3 Dolphins. 

Kaden Pierce OF / Gulf Shores , AL / 2022

Pierce, a senior outfielder, was 5-9 (.556 BA) during the week with a double. He also scored three runs for the 6A No. 3 Dolphins as they prepare for the 1st round of the 6A state playoffs this weekend. He also scored three runs and had a stolen base. 

Nate Mayfield SS / RHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2023

The uncommitted junior played an integral role in the Patriots area sweep this past weekend. Hitting out of the leadoff spot, Mayfield was 4-8 (.500 BA) with two triples while driving in three runs. He also scored three runs and had two stolen bases, to go along with four walks. 

Brady McAbee C / 3B / Northridge, AL / 2023

McAbee, a former PBR Future Game participant from this past summer, was 5-8 (.625 BA) this week. In an important area series to determine a playoff spot, the uncommitted junior delivered the go-ahead home run in the ninth inning of G1 that ultimately gave the Jaguars a 4-3 win. He also had a triple and drove in five runs during the series. 

Dawson Cambron SS / RHP / New Hope, AL / 2025

The freshman helped the Indians get a G1 win in their area series versus Noth Jackson as he went 5.2 innings on the mound. He scattered four hits and allowed four earned runs. He only allowed two walks and struck out 11 hitters.  

Logan Brewer RHP / Saraland, AL / 2022

Brewer, a Coastal Alabama North CC recruit, was brilliant for the 6A No. 2 Spartans (28-4)  this week as he tossed nine innings on the mound. He only allowed one hit and struck out 11 hitters. The Spartans host Northridge this week in the 1st round of the 6A state playoffs. 

Eli Jackson LHP / OF / Hamilton, AL / 2022

Jackson, a Wallace-Hanceville recruit, contiues to turn in quality start after quality start for the 4A No. 5 Aggies. The senior southpaw got a complete game win (5 IP) this week in G1 of their area series. He did not walk a batter while only giving up two hits. He struck out the first six batters of the game and ended up with eight strikeouts on the night. 

Brody McCain RHP / OF / Arab , AL / 2023

McCain, an uncommitted junior, gave the Knights just what they needed in G1 of their recent area series. He got the win by turning in a complete game (7 IP) masterpiece, only allowing one earned run on six hits. McCain struck out four hitters while also delievering a triple of his own and scoring two runs in the 6-2 win. 

Will Ingram LHP / Northridge, AL / 2022

The seenior southpaw was instrumental on the mound helping the Jaguars qualify for the 6A state playoffs. During the recent area series, he was 2-0 with 10 innings pitched. In G1 he got the win after tossing the last three innings of a nine-inning game. He only allowed one hit and did not alow a run while striking out two. In G3 he turned in a CGW (7 IP) while only allowing one earned run. He scattered five hits and had four strikeouts.
