Alabama Fall Prospect Games: Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The Alabama Fall Prospect Games will be held this Sunday, October 24th at the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, AL. Some talented 2022-2025 prospects in the state of Alabama will be there, looking to impress in front of some of college coaches who will be in attendance. CLICK HERE to view the roster for this event.

Our staff will be using this event to select players to represent Alabama at the 2022 PBR Future Games and other select invite-only events.. The Future Games is the summer's ultimate recruiting event for 2024 and 2025 uncommitted prospects in 2022. Last year's event was attended by more than 300 college coaches.

Upon arriving and getting checked in at 8:20-8:40 AM, position players will go through a pro-style workout, and then take batting practice before taking place in gameplay against pitchers. During batting practice, players will be using our Blast Motion sensors, as well as a Trackman B1 Unit to record numbers that will be imported into their profiles for college coaches to see.

Upperclassmen to Watch

Taking a look at the list of players set to attend this weekend's event, there's an impressive amount of talent on the offensive side. Hitters like 1B Patch Lyman (Mountain Brook, 2022), 1B Cade Prestegard (Huntsville, 2022), C/OF Taylor Bush (Oak Mountain, 2022) & 3B Drew McCormick (Oxford, 2023) are power bats from both sides of the box to keep an eye one during the offensive portion of the workout, as they'll be looking to put up big numbers on our Trackman & Blast Motion sensors. INF Kurt Kizer (Hewitt-Trussville, 2023) & INF/RHP Mykell Murrah (Elkmont, 2023) are also a pair of juniors who bring a bit of versatility to their offensive profile, as well. Murrah will also be an arm to watch on the mound. Speaking of pitchers in the upperclassmen division, RHP/OF Chris Billingsley (Bibb County, 2023) & RHP/OF Marcus Locklear (Hoover, 2022) both have been into the upper-80's with their fastballs, and will be looking to close out their fall on a good note with a solid showing this weekend.

OTHERS TO WATCH: 1B Connor Gibbs (Helena, 2022), OF Chance Griner (Oxford, 2022), 2B Jackson Morgan (Chelsea, 2023), 1B Matthew Sheffield (Northridge, 2023), RHP/OF Cameron Welsh (Spring Garden, 2023), SS Cooper Williamson (Huntsville, 2022), RHP Eli Moore (Gardendale, 2022), OF Chris McNeill (Chelsea, 2023), RHP/OF Casen Heaps (Russellville, 2023), LHP/1B Brayden Heaps (Russellville, 2023)

Underclassmen to Watch

This event is filled with 2024's & 2025's who are already towards the top of their respective class. Leading it off, C Mikey Vanderheyden (GW Long, 2025) looks to be well on his way to becoming one of the better backstops in the young freshman class, and he'll look to build off an impressive showing at the PBR Jr. Future Games this past summer. RHP/SS Luke Davenport (James Clemens, 2024) returns after a standout performance at this month's AL/MS Border Battle, where he touched 84 mph on the mound with a real feel for a quality three-pitch mix. 3B/1B Ty McGraw (Gardendale, 2024), 3B/RHP Brendan Conner (Corner, 2024) & SS James Graphos (Mountain Brook, 2024) are a trio of infielders who are all ranked inside the Top-35 in the 2024 AL Rankings, and should be high follows moving forward in the sophomore class.

OTHERS TO WATCH: OF/RHP Eli Cannon (Corner, 2024), SS Anthony Messina (Northridge, 2024), 3B Taurus Ceasar, Jr. (Baker, 2024), C Forrest Heacock (Oxford, 2024), 1B/RHP Hunter Morton (Auburn, 2025), 3B/RHP Bo Bachtel (Gardendale, 2024)

We are also finalizing our Preseason All State events to be held before the high school season begins in January. This event has grown into a heavily attended event so this year we will have two different events with one being in the northern half of the state and the other to be held in the southern part of the state. Keep checking back for details on those events.

Also, over the next two months we will be sending out team questionnaires to coaches to fill out about their 2022 teams. High school team previews will begin soon after the calendar flips to 2022.
