OUTLOOK:

Chris Shelton takes over in his 1st year at the helm of the Montevallo HS baseball program after serving as an assistant at Hueytown HS for several years. The Bulldogs look to improve on their 9 win season from 2018 and have their sights set on making the playoffs but that won’t be easy as they battle Oak Grove, Leeds, Childersburg and Indian Springs in Class 4A Area 8. The Bulldogs return 6 position players that started last year and 4 guys on the mound that contributed. The team does welcome back a fair amount of experience but they will still be a young team in 2019. One player that will be counted on heavily this year is 2020 SS Malik Inabinette who had a very good year in 2018 being selected All- County after hitting .448 with 22 steals while showcasing advanced glove work in the field. Inabinette was recently selected All State on the football field at QB. Josh Mims, a 2020 SS/RHP also returns as the top starting pitcher and is also a dual threat in the field and at the plate. Another key returnee for the Bulldogs is 2021 3B/RHP Cody Posey who shows a nice gap to gap approach at the plate from the left side and really creates some movement on his fastball. Grant Cordes, a 2020 1B/LHP is a plus defender at 1B and shows a solid offensive approach. 2021 RHP Jay Dreyer is an interesting arm to follow, standing 6’6 with solid mechanics, improving velocity and command of his secondary pitches. Although very young in 2019, look for the Bulldogs to be in the thick of a tightly contested area race.
