Alabama High School Team Preview: Northridge Jaguars

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2021 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. That excitement may be at an all-time high entering this high school season as the 2020 high school baseball season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season during an offseason unlike any other and as always, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Outlook:

The Northridge Jagauars enter the 2021 season with some lofty expectations. The squad should score their fare share of runs but will look to some unproven arms to turn to on the mound. A trio of top returning players will lead the way. One of those is senior OF/LHP Tate Robertson who shows a nice arm to go along with good speed. He should look to be a leader in the rotation as well as a leading hitter toward the top of the order. Robertson is committed to Shelton State. A pair of impressive juniors also return in OF/RHP Bodie Vail and 1B/3B/RHP Davis Randolph. Vail (a UAB commit) has good speed and should be one of the top arms this season. He should also hit in the middle of the lineup. Randolph shows impressive power at the plate and should be a major run producer for the Jaguars. Senior 1B/3B/RHP Paul Reid looks to be in the starting rotation mix while also showing some nice pullside pop. Another senior, 1B/RHP Maddox Call, also returns and will be counted on as a relief pitcher with a fastball in the mid 80's while also being counted on with the bat this year. A couple ofother juniors to keep an eye on are SS/RHP Jones Colegrove, who shows advanced defensive actions with the glove and catcher Whitt Winfield. Winfield is a UAB commit and shows a very solid arm behind the plate while doing a nice job handling the pitchers. He will also be counted on offensively this season as well.

A couple sophomore and freshmen to keep an eye on are:

2023 C Brady McAbee: Very solid defensive catcher and really has a solid approach at the plate from the left side.

2023 OF/MIF Elijah Williams: Another LHH that shows solid barrel control with juice to all fields, also a good runner.

2024 INF/RHP Anthony Messina: Solid hands on the infield and very athletic. Also a solid young pitcher with an advanced breaking ball.

2024 MIF/RHP Logan Caldwell: Speedy infielder that shows nice range on the infield and handle the bat well with a solid line drive approach.

2024 OF/1B/LHP Jack Sanderson: Tall, intriguing left handed arm that shows an easy delivery and downhill plane on the fastball. Sanderson also has some power to the pullside.

Look for the Jaguars to field a solid team in 2021 and in the immediate future.
