Alabama High School Team Preview: Cedar Bluff Tigers

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2021 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. That excitement may be at an all- time high entering this high school season as the 2020 high school baseball season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season during an offseason unlike any other and as always, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Outlook:

The Tigers return a solid nucleus of players from last year's team but also will be counting on some inexperinced players in spots, including on the mound. One key offensive piece returning for the 2021 season is 1B/DH Corey Teague. The physically imposing right handed hitter has some major power off the bat and will be coounted on to be a major run producer. A couple of juniors also return to help lead the Tigers this season. Jacob Burleson is a 6'1 200 pound slick- fielding shortstop that shows a soid offensive approach at the plate. Burleson is also a returning arm on the mound that will see his worload increase more in 2021. Catcher Preston Burt in another junior returner that will be looked on to lead some of the younger guys this year. Burt is a very solid defender behind the plate. Sophomore SS/2B Alexander Leek (5'8 150 lbs.) also returns after starting a year ago as a freshman at 2B, SS and in the outfield. He will be a table setter for the Tiger offense as he will look to utilize his speed while also showing solid baseball instinct. A solid core of players will be looking to bring some younger plays on as the season progresses.
