OUTLOOK:

The Tigers of Coach Travis Tate enter the 2019 season with a lot of optimism as they will be vying for a state playoff berth in an area that pits them versus Huntsville, Sparkman and Gadsden City. The Tigers look to rely on a deep pitching staff as they return 4 guys that logged significant innings on the mound in 2018 and they expect to have some added punch throughout their lineup in 2019. One guy the Tigers will depend on in a duel role is 2019 RHP/Util Zach Thomson. The 6’4 225 lb. senior will be a front end guy on the mound and will also be called on to be an RBI producer in the offensive lineup. Thomson has committed to Snead State CC. Noah Walls is another 2019 grad that is a very solid SS and is a tough out at the plate. He is expected to be an offensive catalyst for the Tigers. Evan Koob is another 2019 that returns this season. The Tigers will need him to be good on the mound this season and he can also play the outfield. He is committed to Motlow State CC. Senior Wade Wiginton is a “jack of all trades” and is being counted on as right handed pitcher, outfielder and possible 1B. Wiginton should add some some thump to the offensive lineup. Another LHP is senior Daniel James, who is a competitor on the mound and is gaining interest from several schools. Dylan Cook is the third LHP the Tigers have and he may eventually be the best of the bunch. Cook, a 2021 grad, stands 6’4 and is also a legit outfielder that can really swing the bat. He is a definite high ceiling player and one to keep an eye through the next few years. He is ranked #22 in the 2021 state player rankings. Two underclassmen Tate is expecting to make significant contributions in 2019 are Noah Lam, a 2021 SS/2B and John Allen Stogner, a 2021 RHP. Lam brings tons of athleticism to the position and can really hit while Stogner is termed a “bulldog on the bump” with a fastball in the mid 80’s right now. The Tigers are eager to get started, which they hope will end in an area championship in 2019.
