Alabama High School Team Preview: Lee Generals

The 2022 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

Team Outlook

The Lee Generals come in to the spring of 2022 with high hopes to make it back to the 5A State Playoffs. Last year, the Generals unfortunately missed out on the playoffs, but Coach Ballard is excited about the experience this team returns in 2022.

Talking about of that experience that is coming back for the Generals in 2022, the 2022 version of this team will be filled with plenty of upperclassmen with valuable experience and game reps under their belt. One of the top players from last year's squad that is returning will be UTL Xavier O'Neal, who unfortunately missed out on the season last year due to injury. He'll provide an immediate boost for the Generals this spring. Other players who will be relied on for production at the plate and on the mound include 1B/RHP Xavier Wallace, C/RHP Dominic Tucker, SS/RHP Robert Smith, INF/RHP Reed Hunkapillar & OF/LHP Jamie Tatum. All of these players bring back a lot of experience from the past years, which should benefit this team's success.

The Generals have a few other upperclassmen that will play key roles in 2022, which is always good to have veteran leadership from juniors and seniors. Lee will look to make it back to the playoffs this spring and have a successful season.
