Alabama High School Team Preview: Madison County Tigers

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2022 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each AHSAA classification as well as a Power 25. One thing that you especially don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state as well as recaps and previews of big games across the state.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook

The Madison County Tigers head in to the 2022 season with high hopes to make it to the Class 4A State Playoffs. This team returns a decent amount of talent from last year's team that unfortunately missed out on the playoffs. This year, it looks like the Tigers could have enough pieces coming back, in addition to some younger players, to have a successful year.

Out of those four returning starters from last year's team, SS/RHP Ramiro Towers (Anderson University) brings back the most experience out of anyone on this team, as he has served as a starter for the Tigers over the last four years. He'll play shortstop and hit towards the top of the lineup, as well as being one of the top pitchers on this pitching staff. INF/RHP Killian Davis is another senior for the Tigers who is a returning starter. Davis is expected to be behind Towers in the rotation, and will also play multiple positions when he's not on the mound. Moving down the roster, C/RHP Nolan Daversa should be one of the primary run producers for this Tigers' lineup. Daversa is a strong 6-0, 195-pound junior with gap-to-gap pop from the right side of the plate. A couple other starters returning for another year will be OF Andrew Towers & INF/LHP Dax Maples. Towers should serve as the starting center fielder, while Maples is expected to play first base and pitch some important innings for the Tigers.

Although there are some upperclassmen returning this year, Madison County will need some younger players to step into bigger roles in order for them to be successful this spring. INF/RHP Jake Thornton & INF/RHP Nicholas Sharp both got some playing time under their belt last year and are expected to compete for starting roles on the infield. They also will be called upon to pitch some innings on the mound, as well. OF/RHP Brody Moon & INF/RHP Memphis Scott are also a couple of underclassmen to keep an eye out for this spring. The Tigers will look to make it to the Class 4A State Playoffs in 2022.
