Alabama High School Team Preview: Piedmont Bulldogs

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2022 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each AHSAA classification as well as a Power 25. One thing that you especially don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state as well as recaps and previews of big games across the state.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook

The Piedmont Bulldogs have run off an impressive streak of Class 3A State Playoff appearances over the past decade with multiple appearances in the Final Four. The Bulldogs reached the Class 3A semifinals last spring, but fell to the eventual Class 3A State Champion in Phil Campbell in three games.

The Bulldogs have another really talented roster on hand for this spring with many returners coming back from last year's team that reached the Final Four. SS/RHP Austin Estes (Delta State) returns as a four-year starter and is set for his third year hitting in the leadoff spot. Estes is a dual-sport prospect who will play both baseball and football in college. The senior led last year's team in steals (27) and runs (48), and also went 8-0 on the mound with a 1.11 ERA. 3B/RHP Noah Reedy is another senior for the Bulldogs who was a huge run-producer in the middle of the order. Reedy led the offensive hitting .426 with 55 hits, 17 doubles and 51 RBI's (school record), and also went 8-3 on the mound with 60 strikeouts. C/RHP Jack Hayes is another talented prospect who has started for the Bulldogs since his seventh-grade year. Hayes is a physical right-handed hitter who threw out 46% of runners attempting to steal. He also went 5-1 on the mound with a 2.65 ERA and 39 strikeouts. OF Max Hanson is another junior for the Bulldogs who brings back three years of experience. Hanson hits out of the two-hole and posted a .403 batting average with 46 runs, and can go get it defensively in the outfield. OF/RHP Cassius Fairs made a big impact last spring for the Bulldogs, and he returns this spring after hitting .400 and posting a 2.26 ERA in relief.

Piedmont also has a few other guys who are sure to step up and play big roles this spring. Some of those names are MIF Omarion Foster, 3B Ridge Fagan, 1B/DH Jack Tolbert, RHP Sloan Smith, OF/RHP Jake Austin & 2B McClane Mohon. The Bulldogs once again have the talent and experience to make another deep run throughout the Class 3A State Playoffs.
