Alabama High School Team Preview: Robert E. Lee Generals

The 2022 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each AHSAA classification as well as a Power 25. One thing that you especially don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state as well as recaps and previews of big games across the state.

Team Outlook
The Robert E. Lee Generals come in to the spring of 2022 with high hopes to make it back to the 6A State Playoffs. Last year, the Generals finished as the runner-up in their area and fell to the hands of No. 1 Faith Academy in the 1st Round of the playoffs. Coach Ballard is excited about the experience this team returns in 2022.
Speaking of that experience that is coming back for the Generals in 2022, the 2022 version of this team will be filled with plenty of upperclassmen with valuable experience and game reps under their belt. One of the top players from last year's squad that is returning will be UTL TJ Lambert. Lambert is a very versatile player and brings a unique skillset to the table, playing numerous positions defensively. Other players who will be relied on for production at the plate and on the mound include: UTL Javeon Vandsandt, INF Kieshun McDaniel, RHP JJ Bonner, INF/RHP Austin Yelder & OF Jeff Faire. All of these players bring back a lot of experience from the past years, which should benefit this team's success.
There are also some younger players in the Generals' programs that could possibly earn some playing time this year playing as freshman and sophomores. Robert E. Lee will look to have the same type of success they had last year and make it back to the 6A State Playoffs.
