Alabama High School Team Preview: Albertville Aggies

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2022 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each AHSAA classification as well as a Power 25. One thing that you especially don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state as well as recaps and previews of big games across the state.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook

The Albertville Aggies have some important pieces returning for the 2022 season, and will look to reach the 7A State Playoffs after missing out last spring. The Aggies have a quality mix of older & younger players, which should bode well for the future of their program.

Albertville brings back a key producer from last year's squad in C/3B Alex Johnson (Snead State CC), who has been a long-time starter throughout his high school career. Johnson is a strong-bodied backstop with some gap-to-gap power packed inside his right-handed bat. He'll be relied on as a leader for this Albertville team in his last year of his high school career. Another senior looking to go out on a strong note in 2022 will be 1B Tristan Golden. He's been a consistent run-producer at the plate, and that shouldn't change this spring.

Speaking about those underclassmen, OF Andy Howard enjoyed a breakout campaign as a freshman last year hitting in the heart of the Aggies' order. Howard, who also serves as the QB in the fall for Albertville, stands an impressive 6-2, 205-pounds and put up some big power numbers last year. SS/RHP Conner Lowery is another sophomore who is expected to see his role expand in 2022. Lowery is an athletic middle-infielder with a quality right-handed bat that produces hard line drives. RHP Reece Knight should pitch some quality innings for the Aggies this spring, and other underclassmen like C/3B Gavin Jones & OF Fonzi Davis have bright futures ahead of them.
