Alabama High School Team Preview: St. Clair County Saints

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2022 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each AHSAA classification as well as a Power 25. One thing that you especially don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state as well as recaps and previews of big games across the state.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook

The St. Clair County Fighting Saints head in to the spring of 2022 with high aspirations to make it back to the Class 5A State Playoffs. Last spring, the Fighting Saints won their area and made it to the 2nd Round of the playoffs before being eliminated by Madison Academy, who ended up making it to the Final Four. This year, St. Clair County returns more than half of their lineup and a few arms from that team.

One of the top returners from last year's team is a quality uncommitted senior in OF Jackson Lindsey. Lindsey has been a top performer at a couple of events over the past couple years, and should help lead the way offensively in 2022. He covers ground well and has an above average arm, as well. Another key piece coming back for the Fighting Saints will be SS Sawyer Motes, who brings back plenty of experience from the past couple years. He led the team in batting average back in 2020, and he'll be relied on for the same type of production this spring. One underclassmen to keep an eye for the 2022 season will be OF Logan Knowles. Knowles is a 5-10, 165-pounder who has a chance to be one of the leaders offensively as a sophomore.

There a few other returners from last year's team, which should bode well for this team's success. With the returning experience, the Fighting Saints will be looking to win their area again and make it back to the Class 5A State Playoffs.
