Alabama High School Team Preview: Whitesburg Christian Academy Warriors

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2022 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each AHSAA classification as well as a Power 25. One thing that you especially don’t want to miss are our scheduled podcasts with guests from across the state as well as recaps and previews of big games across the state.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook

The Whitesburg Christian Academy Warriors will look to continue to be a competitive team after making the Class 2A State Playoffs in 2021. After finishing as the runner-up in their area, the Warriors were unfortunately defeated by Mars Hill Bible in the 1st Round, who eventually made it to the Final Four.

There's a lot of optimism for this squad heading into this spring, as they return seven positional starters and seven pitchers from last year's team that reached the playoffs. UTL Matthew Parks is one of those returners who will look to continue on a solid 2021 campaign after playing his best baseball down the stretch. Parks can play anywhere defensively and will be a solid piece returning to the lineup for the Warriors. He's one of the few returning upperclassmen that will be looked upon for leadership. 3B/RHP Evan Dodd is sophomore coming back for the Warriors after a strong freshman season. He took over at 3rd base last year and never looked back. He'll hit cleanup for Whitesburg Christian Academy and also be a key relief arm in the rotation. 1B/LHP Thomas Harmon is another junior, like Parks, who will be a key piece for the Warriors in 2022. He'll be back at full strength after dealing with an injury over the past couple years and will return to the lineup and rotation this spring. SS/RHP Luke Holbrook is known as one of the top shortstops in the state in the freshman class, and he'll be another important piece coming back this spring. He was the starting shortstop last year as an eighth-grader and hit .339/.455/.452 in the three-hole. He'll also be a top pitcher for the Warriors.

A few other freshman who will play key roles this spring will be UTL Kaleb Robinson & OF Andrew Summers. Robinson should move into the leadoff spot in the lineup, while Summers will look to retain a starting spot in the outfield after playing last year. The Warriors have plenty of experience coming back this spring, which should bode for success in 2022.
