Thursday, April 7th

+ 1B Henry Allen (Auburn, 2024) was the key run-producer for a deep, potent Tigers' lineup in their first area win yesterday. Listed at 6-foot-1, 205-pound with a frame that's continued to fill out and still has room left for projection, the Mississippi State recruit finished his day going 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI hitting in the cleanup spot as a sophomore. Allen showed the ability to use both sides of the field in his approach with a sharp single to right field in his first at-bat and a missile to left field for a double in his third at-bat. The sophomore has good rhythm in his setup and seems to effortlessly lag his quick barrel through the zone with a simple, powerful stroke from the right side of the plate. Although he's shown plenty of power early on in his high school career, the sophomore has more power potential down the road with a high-waisted frame that should carry much more strength in the future. Hitter-ish traits and a Top-20 player nationally in the 2024 class.

Henry Allen (4/7/22)

+ RHP Riley Quick (Hewitt-Trussville, 2022) continues to establish himself as a bonafide elite arm as he continues to put together a spectacular senior season. The Alabama signee got the ball in the Huskies area-opener and delivered a complete-game shutout. Quick continues to show high-level stuff and is ultra competitive on the mound and got better as the game worked into the later innings on Thursday. The 6-foot-6, 250-pounder once again showed a dominant fastball that sat 90-92 mph and topped at 93 mph in the third inning. There is some occasional cut to the pitch which he showed command to both sides of the dish while also showing a wipeout slider at 75-77 mph that was tough for hitters to pick up and lay off of. The 11-5 shape on the pitch showed quality, late bite. Commanding a third pitch wasn’t a problem either, as the senior right-hander featured a deceptive changeup at 77-79 mph that showed late sink to the arm side. For good measure, Quick destroyed a baseball well over the fence in left field in his final at-bat to score the Huskies final two runs.

Riley Quick (4/7/22)

+ C Matt Miller (Hewitt-Trussville, 2022) does a quality job behind the plate expanding the plate for the Huskies' pitchers while also showing plenty of arm strength on throws to the second-base bag, which ranged 1.93-2.08 in between innings. He did a good job blocking the quality slider that Quick continued to use for an out-pitch versus opposing hitters. Hitting cleanup in the offensive lineup, the North Alabama signee showed off the power in the first inning as he jumped on the first pitch he saw for a no-doubt home run over the left-center field fence. In other at-bats, the senior showed a very patient, disciplined approach and consistently spoiled good pitches to extend multiple at-bats. Miller plans to play both football (TE) and baseball for the Lions.

Matt Miller (4/7/22)

INF Kurt Kizer (Hewitt-Trussville, 2023) hits in the three-hole for the Huskies and showed why on Thursday as he was 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. The uncommitted junior showed a slightly open stance with a simple toe-tap approach and had no trouble getting the barrel to the hitting zone in each of his plate appearances. Kizer showed a slow, controlled load with the hands and created quality lag with the barrel through the hitting zone. He also showed advanced athleticism in the dirt and around the second-base bag moving well to both sides. Kizer seems to play with a high motor and a high level baseball IQ. A definite junior to continue to follow in the Alabama 2023 class.

Kurt Kizer (4/7/22)

+ SS Brexton Taft (American Christian Academy, 2022) was arguably the best athlete on the field for either team on Thursday. Taft led off the game for the Patriots with a double, adding a couple of stellar defensive plays in the early few innings. Taft would get a second double in 6th, where he would later come around to score, as well as being the game winning run in the 8th after a leadoff single. The Wallace-Dothan CC signee plays with a quick twitch, showing off impressive speed and defense, as well as a well disciplined approach at the plate and a quality swing that helps him find lots of barrels.

Brexton Taft (4/7/22)

+ 1B Max Milligan (American Christian Academy, 2022) got out to a hot start in Game 1 for the Patriots, stepping up to the plate down 2-0 with a runner on second, and roped a baseball that carried over the deep left-center field wall. Milligan’s day wouldn’t slow down there, however, as he would start a hit parade for the Patriots which would yield 5 consecutive singles, where Milligan would come home to score. Milligan uses a tall frame and quick hands to drive the ball to all fields.

Max Milligan (4/7/22)

+ DH Brady Jones (Gordo, 2025) was the star of the show for Gordo in spite of a loss on Thursday playing a big role in a talented lineup at such a young age. Jones stepped up to the plate in the top of the 1st with runners on 2nd and 3rd and promptly delivered, bringing home both runners to get Gordo on the board early. After another base knock in the 4th, Jones stepped up to the plate with 2 runners on and deposited a pitch over the left field wall for a three-run home run. Jones has a very disciplined approach that when paired with his quick hands, helped him collect five RBI’s, three hits and seven total bases on the day.

Brady Jones (4/7/22)

+ C Carson Sute (American Christian Academy, 2023) was the timely hero for the Patriots in Game 1 of Thursday’s doubleheader. Sute stepped up to the plate in the bottom half of the 6th inning with two runners on, two outs and a 2-2 count, and unloaded on a pitch and sent it to the right-center field gap to score both runs and give the Patriots an 8-7 lead. Sute stepped up with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 8th, and lined a pitch back up the middle to the center fielder for a walk-off sacrifice fly. Sute showed a good approach at the plate in clutch moments and was stellar behind the plate by controlling the running game and handling a quality pitching staff well.

Tuesday, April 5th

+ RHP Michael Pfeiffer (Huntsville, 2022) got the ball to open up 7A Area 7 play for the Panthers and the senior right-hander did not disappoint as he turned in a five-inning, complete game masterpiece. The Lawson State recruit did allow an earned run in the 1st inning on two hits, but from that point on he was in complete control as the Panthers won 11-1. Pfeiffer showed a quality two-pitch mix with confidence to throw the fastball and slider in any count. The fastball seemed to have late life through the hitting zone as he was 86-88 mph early and even bumped 90 mph on a pitch up in the zone in the 2nd inning. The separator was definitely the slider as it showed solid 11/5 shape at 72-76 mph and was able to throw the pitch for a strike and was also able to feature the pitch as a swing-and-miss offering, finishing out of the zone. Offensively, Pfeiffer was 1-2 on the day with a double, two runs driven in to go along with two walks. He finished earning the W going 5 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, BB & 8 K's on the mound.

Michael Pfeiffer (4/5/22)

Monday, April 4th

+ 3B/RHP Ryan Strachan (Sparkman, 2023) has shown an advanced hit tool over the last few years and that has never been more true than Monday as the uncommitted junior was 4-for-4 on the day with three runs driven in. After getting hit-by-pitch in his first appearance of the day, Strachan then proceeded to get hits in each of his next four at-bats. In precious at-bats, the junior has shown the ability to drive balls to all fields but Monday he showed more of a pull side approach as he collected three singles and also delivered one of the bigger moments when he left the yard to the LCF gap for a no-doubt home run that gave the Senators a brief lead. Listed as 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, Strachan will also get on the mound and pitch in the upper 80’s with his fastball. Definitely one of the better uncommitted 2023 grads still available in the state.

Ryan Strachan (4/4/22)

+ RHP Luke Davenport (James Clemens, 2024) served as the opener for the Jets in this mid-week contest and battled through his one inning of work. The sophomore shows clean, repeatable mechanics and a high ¾ arm slot and very quick arm action as he will continue to add size and strength to a long, lean frame. The fastball shows natural sink and some arm side action at 82-85 mph as he also bumped 87 mph once. The slider is thrown with confidence and shows solid 11-5 action at 76-78 mph. On Monday, Davenport showed a quality changeup from the same arm slot/arm speed as the fastball at 77-79 mph that showed late fade into right-handed hitters. At times, Davenport did not locate the fastball as he would have liked but there is no doubting the stuff.
