Junior Winter Standouts

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

Continuing our look at winter standouts, The Hotlist highlights some juniors who have had recent notable performances.

Easton Espinoza, 3B/RHP, Chiawana HS, WA
A two-way prospect, Espinoza had one of the best all-around performances at the Northwest Preseason Invite. He showed a quick, powerful stroke from the left side of the plate from a quiet, balanced set up. His bat speed was up to 81.5 mph with easy effort and he flashed his power potential with a peak exit velocity of 95.9. He controls the barrel with strong, powerful wrists and short levers. On the bump, he commanded a three-pitch mix highlighted by some intriguing Trackman data. The fastball came in at 82-85 and stays on plane late into the zone. The lower release and spin rate helps create hop and carry which makes it tough for hitters to stay on top of the ball and should lead to swings and misses in the upper half of the zone. The slider has tight, sharp spin up to 2443 rpm and his changeup has some of the best horizontal movement that we measured.
