Mizuno Pitcher & Player of the Week: Week 7

PBR Alabama Staff

Each week during the high school season, we will be announcing the Mizuno Pitcher and Player of the Week for that particular week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week based on nominations from high school coaches across the state. Thanks to Mizuno for sponsoring both awards this season.

Check out our scout blog HERE for games our staff was able to get out and see this past week.

Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

New this year will be our Alabama Diamond Notes that we will release each Tuesday. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches that are deserving of recognition that were not named Mizuno Pitcher or Player of the Week. Look for that tomorrow.

Let's take a look at the Mizuno Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 7 (April 4-9):

MIZUNO PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Slade Haney

Class of 2022 / OF

Player Information

  • Graduating Class: 2022

Stats from week 7

Slaney, a Mississippi College signee, had a spectacular week for the 1A No. 2 Donoho Falcons in a two-way role. He gained a win on the mound as he struck out seven hitters and had a 1.40 ERA for the week but it was the bat that really jumped out during the week. The senior outfielder was 8-17 (.471 BA) with four home runs and one double while driving in 15 runs during the week. Slaney was obviously a major run-producer during the week, helping the Falcons improve to 13-3.

MIZUNO PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Steven Cash

Class of 2022 / LHP

Player Information

  • Graduating Class: 2022
  • Primary Position: LHP
    Secondary Position: OF
  • High School: Bibb County
    State: AL
  • Summer Team: East Coast Sox Founders Club
  • Height: 6-1
    Weight: 170lbs
  • Bat/Throw: R/L

Stats from week 7

The senior southpaw turned in another quality outing for the 4A No. 5 Bibb County Choctaws as he helped his team get a 2-0 win in Game 1 versus Montevallo. The Louisiana-Lafayette signee was in complete control throughout as he tossed seven innings of shutout baseball. Cash did not allow a run while scattering two hits and only walking one hitter. Displaying an advanced fastball/slider combo, he struck out 15 hitters to help the Choctaws improve to 15-8.
