Scouting Report

3/26/21

3B Mac Turner (2022, Southern Union CC) has been a player that we’ve seen a ton of over the past few years, and he continues to get better and better with each look. A former Future Gamer, Turner has made improvements to his 6-2, 190 pound frame and has benefited from added physicality and strength. Turner led the way offensively for the Huskies in their lone game of the day, as he blasted a home run and added a triple in his next at-bat. The junior creates excellent extension out front when he gets his pitch and drives it with authority. After the home run in his 1st at-bat, Turner displayed maturity by shooting an outside fastball down the right field line and legged it out for a triple. He continued to show why he is regarded as one of the top hitters in the ‘22 Alabama class.

2/23/21

'22 3B Mac Turner (Southern Union CC) has always been a steady & consistent performer at the plate, and he has started off the 2021 season on a great note offensively. As a junior hitting in the three-hole of a talented lineup, Turner rarely misses a fastball over the plate and doesn’t get cheated. We saw him flex some power on a home run in a scrimmage in early February, and he continues to supply extra bases & power in the middle of the lineup. In his second at-bat, Turner caught a fastball left over the middle of the plate and lined it over shortstop and into the gap for a double. He’s really shortened his swing and polished it up a bit. Coupled with some notable strength added to 6-2, 190 frame, Turner continues to show well at the plate.

1/17/21

6-foot-2, 190-pound physical frame. Advanced at the plate, Turner's best exit velocity was 95 mph. Began in a balanced stance with a smooth load, then used a quick stride. Bat speed was explosive, had simple uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. He Barreled up lots of balls with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. In the infield, displayed a velocity of 77 mph.  Laterally, his movements were athletic. While catching, had next level hands, fluid footwork, and a twitchy exchange. Used a quick arm action and an-over-the-top slot while showing consistent accuracy to the base. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.17.

6/30/20

6-foot-2, 178-pound solid frame. During batting practice, Turner displayed an exit velocity of 95 mph, showing his strength and power ability. Setup is comprised of balanced stance and a short stride. Had quick bat speed, uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. Through his round he found multiple barrels with loud contact. Pull side approach. In the infield, recorded a position velocity of 83 mph; has a fluid exchange, consistent feet and sure hands. Had a quick arm action and consistent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.07.

9/29/19

Turner has really added nice size and strength over the last year and the skills have shown nice development as well. Slightly open toe tap approach at the plate with some definite tilt in the swing path. Did a nice job of staying short with the hands and barrel and repeatedly worked the middle to RCF gap during BP. There is some strength in the hands as well. Liked the approach, also had a 2B to RCF in game play. Defensively, the arm strength is solid (81 mph across the diamond) and loved the footwork on the dirt as well as the momentum through the throw. There is some quick twitch in his actions.

McGwire Turner (2022, SS/OF, Helena) 5’11 135 lbs- 7.19.18-  another young player at the event that ran an 8.28 60 yard dash while showing an IF velo of 68 mph. His glovework was solid with good presentation of the glove and fluid actions. At the plate, he had an exit velo of 76 mph from a slightly open stance with an inside out approach and a backside approach.
