PBR AL Athletes of the Month: April

PBR Alabama Staff

Eight teams in each classification remain alive in the AHSAA state playoffs as they battle for the coveted "Blue Map". As the high school season has progressed, more and more players have put up impressive performances to help their respective teams. Some of the players listed below are still playing with their sights set on Montgomery. Eight players have been chosen as PBR Alabama Athletes of the Month for the month of April. Each of these winners will receive a t-shirt depicting their "Athlete of the Month" status. We appreciate all of the high school coaches for nominating their players, as our staff had some very difficult decisions to make for April. Let's take a look at the eight award winners from April.

Special thanks to Structure Brand for sponsoring the PBR Alabama Players of the Month and supplying t-shirts to the winners. Visit their website for all of your team uniform and fan apparel needs.

PBR ALABAMA ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

+ Chase Allsup (2021, RHP, Dothan) The Auburn signee enjoyed a successful April as a two way player for the Wolves. On the mound, Allsup was 4-0 (wins over Houston Academy, Prattville, Enterprise and Fairhope) with 3 complete games while throwing 25 innings. He only allowed 4 earned runs and struck out 47 hitters. Offensively, the senior hit .355 with 6 2B and 2 HR and also drove in 11 runs. Dothan is on the road this week at #2 Central-Phenix City in the 7A quarterfinals.

+ Sean Agsalud (2021, OF, Hoover) Agsalud has been consistent all year in the Buc lineup as he continued his offensive onslaught in April. For the month, the uncommitted senior was 21-42 (.500 BA) with 2 2B and 2 HR. He also drove in 16 runs, scored 15 additional runs and walked 11 times. The senior also stole 7 bases and will help lead Hoover this week as they travel to #1 Hewitt- Trussville in the 7A quarterfinals.

+ Will Cannon (2021, RHP, Central-Phenix City) Cannon has given the Red Devils solid start after solid start all year and is just one of the reasons they will be hosting #5 Dothan this weekend in the 7A quarterfinals. For the month of April on the mound, the Georgia State signee logged 19.1 innings while going 3-0 during the month. He struck out 29 hitters and had a miniscule 0.47 ERA. With the bat, Cannon hit at a .462 clip (18-39) with 1 HR and 14 RBI.

+ Ben Capps (2022, RHP, Gordo) The Greenwave's season came to an end this past week as they lost to #3 Mobile Christian but that doesn't diminish the season that Capps and his teammates had. Staying near the top of the 4A poll just about all year, the Greenwave depended on Capps in a 2-way role, while especially leaning on him on the mound. The uncommitted junior recently set an AHSAA state record by tossing 44 straight innings of scoreless baseball.

+ Cole Cheatham (2021, LHP, Ardmore) The Ardmore Tigers made it to the 2nd round of the 5A state playoffs before losing in 3 games to Alexandria as Cheatham was dominant on the mound. The Mississippi State signee made 4 starts during the month and went 17.2 innings on the mound. He only allowed 5 hits while striking out an absurd amount of 44 hitters. He only allowed 1 earned run all month while compiling a 0.39 ERA.

+ Ethan Hamm (2022, LHP/OF, Lauderdale County) Hamm helped guide the Tigers to the 3A state playoffs before falling to #6 Fyffe in the 1st round. During the month of April, Hamm logged 27.2 innings while going 2-0 and only allowing 2 earned runs all month. The uncommitted junior struck out 53 hitters and compiled a 0.51 ERA. With the bat, Hamm was 12-29 (.414 BA) with 5 2B and 1 3B while driving in 10 runs.

+ Alex Johnson (2021, C, Edgewood Academy) The senior catcher has been on a tear with the bat all season and April was more of the same as Johnson collected 15 hits in 23 at-bats (.652 BA). The power numbers were there as he had 2 2B, 1 3B and 3 HR while driving in 18 runs. Johnson and his Edgewood teammates are headed to the AISA Final Four.

+ JT Pennington (2021, 1B, Shelby County) The Shelby County Wildcats have been as hot as anyone of late and Pennington has been a huge part of the team's offensive success. While Pennington has already signed a football scholarship to Jacksonville State, he and his teammates are still alive in the 5A playoffs as they travel to #10 Pike Road this week in the uarterfinals. For the month of April, the senior hit .545 (18-33) with 7 2B and 4 HR. He also drove in 22 runs as the Wildcats hope that trend continues this weekend.

Congratulations to all of these players for winning the PBR Alabama Athlete of the Month, Powered by Structure Brand!
