PBR Alabama Players of the Week: March 15-20

PBR Alabama Staff

Mother Nature wreaked havoc on many high school baseball games across the state as most teams lost one or more games this week due to weather. Even so, there were plenty of outstanding performances across the state. Congratulations to the players below that have earned "PBR Alabama Players of the Week" for March 15-20. Thanks to the high school coaches that nominated players for this past week. This week we have 8 positional players, 6 pitcher only's and 6 two way players on the list. Let's see who those players are.

PBR ALABAMA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Positional Players:

+ Slate Alford (2021, 3B, Bob Jones) Well, another week and another appearance by the Mississippi State signee on the weekly list. All Alford did was go 14-22 with 5 2Bs, 4 HRs and 10 RBIs. The senior also scored 16 runs and waked 4 times.

+ Cole Berry (2021, 1B, Faith Academy) Berry enjoyed a ton of success this week versus some quality out of state opponents. He was 9-13 with the bat, including 3 2Bs, 1 3B and a HR at the "Battle of the Beach".

+ Mason Mann (2021, 1B, Priceville) The Wallace Hanceville signee continues a torrid 2021 season with the bat. For the week Mann hit .500 (10-20) which included 4 multi-hit games. He hammered 5 2Bs and a 3B while driving in 9 runs with 9 runs scored and a stolen base.

+ Cade Morgan (2021, SS, Hueytown) Morgan helped Hueytown perform at a high level this week as the senior Huntingdon College signee hit at a .533 clip (8-15). He had 1 2B, 1 3B and 6 RBIs.

+ Coleman Oliver (2021, 3B, Jacksonville) Oliver makes his second appearance on the list after hitting .500 for the week (7-14). The senior had a 2B and a HR to go along with 11 RBIs. He also scored four runs.

+ Max Soliz, Jr. (2021, C, Bob Jones) It's hard to believe Soliz put up all of these numbers in a single week but it's true. The Arkansas signee was 12-21 with 2 2Bs, 5 HRs and an amazing 20 RBIs. Soliz also scored 7 runs and walked 5 times.

+ Marc Stephens (2022, SS, Gulf Shores) The junior shortstop hit at a .571 clip for the week and also had an on base percentage of .700. He collected 2 2Bs and 2 RBIs while scoring 2 more runs. He was also hit by pitch one time and drew 2 walks.

+ Daniel Stewart (2021, C, Hazel Green) The Wallace Hanceville signee was 7-13 (.538) for the week and drove in 5 runs. Also a quality catcher, Stewart had 2 2Bs and scored 4 runs.

Pitcher Only:

+ Thomas Ballard (2021, RHP, Bob Jones) Ballard continues to give the Patriots quality start after quality start. In the semifinals of the Gulf Coast Classic, the UAB signee twirled a complete game, getting the win against Lipscomb Academy. He allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits, while striking out 9 and not walking a hitter.

+ Ben Capps (2022, RHP, Gordo) Capps tossed 12 innings on the week and did not allow a run. He only allowed 5 hits while striking out 10 hitters. He only issued 1 walk as he threw 5 innings against Bibb County and 2 more innings versus Winfield.

+ Zach Hill (2022, RHP, Hueytown) The junior had a dominant performance against a quality opponent (Mortimer Jordan) this week. Hill tossed a 5 inning no-hitter with 6 Ks while only facing 1 hitter over the minimum (HBP) in a 10-0 victory.

+ Mattox Johnson (2022, LHP, Gulf Shores) Johnson's line versus Foley is very impressive. The junior southpaw tossed a complete game 1-hitter (1-0) and did not allow a run and did not walk anyone. He recorded 9 Ks and only threw 68 pitches. He was in no 3 ball counts and only 1 2 ball count.

+ Stephen Moraski (2021, RHP, Oak Mountain) The Kaskaskia JC (IL) signee continues to be just one of a few arms the Eagles can look to on the mound. Moraski greatly impressed in his start versus Prattville this week as threw a 6 inning no hitter with 13 Ks.

+ Chip Morgan (2021, RHP, Andalusia) Morgan was dominant in his start versus Greenville as he recorded a complete game shutout. Andalusia won 3-0 while the senior right hander did not allow a run and struck out 10 hitters.

Two Way Players:

+ Drew Cashin (2022, RHP/3B, New Brockton) Cashin went 7 innings on the mound versus Zion Chapel and struck out 17 hitters and only allowed 2 hits, while issuing only 2 BBs. Offensively he was 1-1 with a 3B and 1 RBI and also walked 3 times.

+ Brodie Dodson (2022, RHP/INF, Faith Christian) Dodson was 5-8 with the bat in the shortened week with a 3B and 5 runs scored. He also drove in 2 runs. On the mound, he threw 5 innings while striking out 10 with no walks and only allowed 1 earned run. He was 1-0 on the mound for the week.

+ Samuel Dutton (2021, RHP/OF, Westbrook Christian) Dutton consistently finds his name on the list, for good reason. The LSU signee (RHP) has been a mainstay in a 2 way role for Westbrook Christian. For the week, Dutton through a 6 inning complete game no hitter and only faced one over the minimum (HBP) while striking out 15 hitters and not walking anyone. With the bat, Dutton was 5-10 with 2 2Bs and 5 RBIs.

+ Blake Hall (2023, SS/RHP, Hazel Green) Hall continues to just provide steady play in a 2 way role for the Trojans. For the week, Hall hit at a .500 clip (4-8) with a 2B while getting on base at a .600 OBP. Hall, the Trojans closer, threw 1.2 innings this week and did not allow an earned run on the back end of games.

+ Trent Hodgdon (2021, RHP/3B, Smiths Station) Hodgdon will be attending West Virginia University as a RHP but don't let that fool you as he can swing the bat as well. Offensively, the senior was 5-9 with 3 2Bs while drawing 2 BBs. On the mound he threw 6.1 innings and went 1-0 on the week. He only allowed 1 hit and no runs to go along with 10 Ks.

+ Dalton Jackson (2025, RHP/3B, Florala) The first time we have ever had an 8th grader on the list but Jackson's numbers are more than deserving. In the only game Florala played this week he was 4-4 at the plate with 2 3Bs and 6 RBIs to go along with 2 SBs. If that wasn't enough, he went 5.2 innings on the mound and allowed only 2 hits and no earned runs. He struck out 8 hitters and walked 2.
