PBR at The Performance Lab: Infielders

The PBR at The Performance Lab event was held on Tuesday, July 6th in Mobile, AL. Players were put through a positional workout in the morning and pitchers were able to throw extended bullpens on the mound. Today, we begin to take a look at each player in attendance as we begin our individual scout analysis from last Tuesday's event. Several other position players also pitched and their pitching notes will be included in their positional analysis. 

Throughout the week we will continue our positional breakdown of all of the players in attendance, but today, let's take a look at the infielders from the event. 

 

INFIELDERS

Alex Bennett, 3B/OF, (2024) Mobile Christian, AL
5-foot-11, 180-pound. In the box, Bennett clocked an exit velocity of 88 mph. (71.27 mph bat speed average). (21.46 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced athletic stance and had a leg kick stride. Bat speed is above average and displays an uphill swing plane. In his round he found lots of barrels. Gap to gap approach. A switch-hitter, but seemed more comfortable and adept from the left side of the plate in his round. Plenty of power present and more on the way. In the infield, has average feet, sure hands, and a clean exchange.

Kadyn Cain, 1B/3B, (2024) Theodore, AL
5-foot-10, 175-pound mature frame. During batting practice, Cain's best exit velocity was 89 mph. (62.39 mph bat speed average). (21.14 mph hand speed average). Starts in an open stance with a slow load, then uses a small leg kick stride. Has quick bat speed, upward rotational swing plane and high finish. Pull side approach. In the infield, recorded a position velocity of 74 mph; showed choppy feet, and sure hands. Used an-over-the-top slot and a loose arm action while showing decent accuracy to the bag. On the mound, showed consistent arm speed with a high ¾ arm angle. Up-tempo type pitcher. Sat with his fastball at 77-78 mph with a max of 79 mph; showed command to the arm side and late run. (Max spin 1894; Avg 1766). Threw a 11/5 curveball (64-65) that showed late action and decent command. (Max spin 1722; Avg 1629). Shows deceiving action and control low in the zone on his changeup (68-69).

Ethan Carroll, 3B/RHP, (2025) Walter Wellborn, AL
6-foot-1, 205-pound solid physical frame. In the box, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 84 mph. (60.10 mph bat speed average). (20.18 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced stance with a small load, then uses a quick stride. Had a simple flat swing plane, efficient bat speed and level finish. Opposite field approach. While in the infield, made throws up to 73 mph; showed a clean exchange, raw hands, and developing feet. Showed an-over-the-top slot with a long arm action. On the mound, used an short arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Tall-and-fall type pitcher. Showed a consistent balance point. Threw his fastball 68-71 mph with a max of 74 mph; shows control around the zone and late sinking action. (Max spin 1737; Avg 1480).

Taurus Ceasor Jr., 3B/RHP, (2024) Baker, AL
5-foot-8, 175-pound athletic solid build. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter displayed an exit velocity of 94 mph, Top 3 EV at the showcase. (70.90 mph bat speed average). (22.78 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced tall stance with a high load, then used a small leg kick stride. Had an uphill swing plane, above average bat speed and high finish. Up the middle approach. In the infield, recorded a position velocity of 74 mph; showed smooth feet, a clean exchange, and sure hands. Glovework was used out front. Showed a short arm action and a high ¾ slot. On the mound, had a high ¾ arm angle with quick arm speed. Up-tempo type pitcher and shows easy effort. Has a low balance point. Sat with his fastball at 74-75 mph and topped out at 77 mph; showed arm side run and command around the zone. (Max spin 1947; Avg 1909). Had consistent command on his 11/5 curveball (63-66). (Max spin 1957; Avg 1947). Showed late action and control low in the zone on his changeup (68-69).

Cole Dean, 1B/LHP, (2025) Bayshore Christian, AL
5-foot-9, 170-pound solid frame. During batting practice, Dean had a max exit velocity of 88 mph. (62.52 mph bat speed average). (18.80 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall open stance with a quick stride. Showed nice bat speed and an uphill swing plane and a front foot finish. He barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Up the middle approach. In the infield, displayed a velocity of 73 mph; had consistent hands, and rhythmic footwork. Showed a high ¾ slot and consistent accuracy to the bag. On the mound, showing good arm speed he used a short compact arm action with an over-the-top arm angle. Showed some effort in his delivery. Produced a fastball that came in at 76-78 mphwith arm side action. (Max spin 1994; Avg 1787). He showed a 1/7 curveball (66-67). (Max spin 1676; Avg 1615). His changeup (60-61) shows fading action.Nice looking young hitter. 

Cade Howell, 2B/3B, (2022) Baker, AL
5-foot-11, 170-pound athletic build. During batting practice, Howell recorded an exit velocity of 84 mph. (64.67 mph bat speed average). (21.44 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced athletic stance and used a leg kick stride. Bat speed is above average and exhibits an an inside-out swing plane. He barreled up multiple balls during the round. Up the middle approach. While in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 66 mph; had consistent footwork, and sure hands. Fields the ball out front. Throws from a high ¾ slot.

Carson Joyner, 3B/RHP, (2024) Bayside Academy, AL
5-foot-10, 190-pound physical frame. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 91 mph. (71.24 mph bat speed average). (21.54 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall open stance with a quick load, then uses a leg kick stride. Bat speed is above average and displays a flat swing plane. He showed some loud contact during the round. Pull side approach. In the infield, showed some arm strength with throws that topped out at 85 mph; shows average footwork, and a clean exchange. Had a very quick arm action and a high ¾ slot. On the mound, showed an over-the-top arm angle and a short compact arm action with quick arm speed. Used some effort in his delivery. Changeup (74-76 mph). Threw his fastball 83-84 mph with a max of 86 mph; has arm side control and sinking action. (Max spin 2019; Avg 1850). He threw a sharp 11/5 curveball (68-69). (Max spin 2374; Avg 2113).

Ethan Kick, SS/RHP, (2024) Spanish Fort, AL
6-foot-2, 170-pound projectable long frame. During batting practice, Kick had a max exit velocity of 83 mph. (60.66 mph bat speed average). (17.11 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced quiet stance then uses a quick short stride. Has developing bat speed and uphill swing plane. Found some barrels through his rounds. Line drive approach. In the infield, his position velocity was registered at 66 mph; shows consistent hands, and smooth feet. Laterally, his movements were athletic. Showed decent accuracy to the base and a high ¾ slot. On the mound, showed an short arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Used easy effort in his delivery. Athletic balance point. Produced a fastball that came in at 78-79 mph. Had running action. (Max spin 2068; Avg 1870). He has sinking action on his changeup (72-73). Has tight action on his 10/4 slider (69-70). (Max spin 2372; Avg 2324).

Camron Laffitte, SS/OF, (2024) Saraland, AL
5-foot-11, 180-pound athletic build. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 85 mph. (65.16 mph bat speed average). (20.17 mph hand speed average). Begins in a wide stance with a quick load, then uses a short stride. Has above average bat speed, level swing plane and a front foot finish. Barreled up multiple balls throughout the round. Line drive approach. In the infield, his position velocity was registered at 74 mph; had average footwork. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Used a short arm action with a high ¾ slot.

Edward Mcleod Jr., 3B/1B, (2025) St. Paul's, AL
6-foot-2, 205-pound mature physical build. Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a controlled load, then uses a quick stride. Has a simple upward swing plane, above average bat speed and high finish. Gap to gap approach. Mcleod jr.'s best exit velocity was 88 mph. (68.16 mph bat speed average). (20.03 mph hand speed average). While in the infield, made throws up to 79 mph; had a natural exchange, average choppy footwork, and consistent hands. Glovework is shown out front Used a short arm action with a high ¾ slot. Physical 2025 grad.

Anderson Murray, 2B/SS, (2025) Faith Academy, AL
5-foot-6, 125-pound proportional frame. At the plate, Murray had a max exit velocity of 78 mph. (56.41 mph bat speed average). (19.51 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced stance with a controlled load, then uses a small leg kick stride. Bat speed is developing, had a simple flat swing plane and good extension on his finish. Gap to gap approach. In the infield, his best throw was registered at 68 mph; had a quick exchange, rhythmic footwork, and consistent hands. When fielding he gathers the ball out front. Showed a short arm action and a high ¾ slot.

Logan Norris, SS/RHP, (2023) UMS-Wright Prep, AL
5-foot-9, 155-pound athletic projectable build. At the plate, Norris had an exit velocity of 91 mph. (70.22 mph bat speed average). (22.89 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced quiet stance with a tight load, then uses a toe tap stride. Bat speed is explosive, uses a simple flat swing plane and good extension on his finish. Up the middle approach. Smooth in the infield, his best throw was registered at 82 mph; shows smooth feet, a fluid exchange, and soft hands. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a high ¾ slot with a quick arm action. Speedy MIF that has continued to progress athletically while also showing more size and strength from a year ago. 

Robby Robinson, 2B/SS, (2023) Brooks, AL
6-foot, 165-pound. At the plate, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 83 mph. (64.85 mph bat speed average). (19.90 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall stance then used a quick stride. Bat speed was average, and used an an inside-out swing plane. He barreled up a couple of balls during the round. Opposite field approach. While in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 77 mph; had consistent hands, and average footwork. Had decent accuracy to the base and a high ¾ slot.

Ethan Smith, 1B, (2022) Robertsdale, AL
6-foot-2, 215-pound long athletic build. In the box, Smith clocked an exit velocity of 89 mph. (63.27 mph bat speed average). (21.05 mph hand speed average). Started in an open stance with a smooth load, then used a toe tap stride. Had a rotational uphill swing plane, efficient bat speed and good extension on his finish. Pull side approach. In the infield, recorded a position velocity of 71 mph; showed sure hands, a natural exchange, and athletic feet. When fielding he gathers the ball out front. Had an-over-the-top slot with a long arm action.
