PBR at the Hank Scout Blog: Outfielders

Today, we shift our focus to take a look at each player present at the PBR at the Hank by checking in on the primary outfielders that took part in the event. Many of the position players also hopped on the mound and threw an inning during gameplay as their pitching writeup will be included in their positional analysis. Today we look at the 5 outfielders that were at the event. 

 

OUTFIELDERS

Connor Cosby (2023, OF/LHP, Auburn) 

5-foot-11, 175-pound athletic frame. In the box, the left-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 84 mph. Started in an open stance and had a small leg kick. Bat speed is above average, shows upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. He Barreled up multiple balls with tons of loud contact. Line drive approach. In the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 78 mph; shows athletic footwork and a clean exchange. Had a quick arm action and decent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.19. 

Hunter Nichols (2023, OF, Murphy) 

5-foot-9, 185-pound. During batting practice, the left-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 88 mph. Started in a balanced stance with a controlled load. Bat speed is average and shows simple swing plane. He Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Line drive approach. In the outfield, his best throws to the infield topped out at 79 mph; has soft hands and consistent feet. Had a high ¾ slot with decent accuracy to the base. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.58.

Brandon Taylor (2021, RHP/OF, American Christian) 

6-foot-2, 180-pound. During batting practice, Taylor clocked an exit velocity of 61 mph. Started in an athletic stance. Has uphill swing plane and has good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels in his rounds. Line drive approach. Recorded an outfield position velocity of 74 mph; had rhythmic footwork. Showed a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. Clocked a time of 7.55 in the 60-yard dash. On the mound, uses some effort in his delivery. Showed athletic balance point. Lands soft with a clean finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 72-73 mph and topped out at 74 mph; had control around the zone and running action. Threw his 10/4 curveball (63-65) with sweeping action and low in the zone command. 

Jake Derecki (2021, OF/1B, Oak Mountain) 

6-foot-2, 200-pound athletic frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter's 102 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. Started in a crouched stance and used a controlled stride. Bat speed is quick and exhibits uphill swing plane. He found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. From the outfield, he displayed a position velocity of 79 mph; showed a natural exchange and sure hands. Had a high ¾ slot and consistent accuracy to the bag. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.97.

Hunter Chapuis (2021, OF/2B, Baker) 

5-foot-9, 150-pound. During batting practice, Chapuis clocked an exit velocity of 82 mph. Setup included a compact load and quiet stance. Has efficient bat speed. Found multiple barrels during his round. Base hit approach. From the outfield, he displayed a position velocity of 74 mph; has fluid footwork and a clean exchange. Showed some accuracy to the bag with a consistent arm action. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.14.
