April 29, 2019

Sunday, April 28 was the first event of the spring/summer for players to be evaluated for the Junior Future Games/ Future Games and to begin or update their information in their profile. The event was held at the Top Gun Baseball Field in Birmingham and there was plenty of talent on hand. The event was open to players from the 2021 through 2025 classes and we will roll out a ton of information this week from the event but today let’s take a quick look at just a few of the standouts from the event. We will focus on others from the event as the week progresses.

Brodee Bartlett (2023, SS/2B, Cold Springs) Short, compact approach at the plate that stay balanced throughout. Showed legit feet and some savvy glove work during IF drills.

David Jalbert (2021, 2B/SS, Hoover) Showed a very solid makeup at the plate and in the infield. Has some power in the hands and does a nice job staying through the hitting zone. Smooth actions with the glove and nice arm strength.

Glavine Segars (2021, C/3B, West Morgan) Physical young catcher that shows some juice from a slight tilt in the swing plane from the left side. Nice arm strength behind the plate and did a nice job receiving pitches on the day. Showed pop times ranging 1.98- 2.11.

Banks Langston (2023, RHP/OF, Florence) Has a lean frame with a lot of room to grow. The arm action is clean and showed solid mechanics. FB was up to 81 with life and the breaking ball was tight with slider type action. The change up shows nice deception with the same arm action. Nice actions in the OF as well and turned in a blazing 6.79 60 yard dash.

William Burgreen (2022, SS/2B, Decatur) Switch hitting, athletic MIF. Was more impressive from the right side during BP but showed juice from both sides. Ran an event best 6.68 60 and was 87 mph exit velo off of a tee. Plenty of arm strength, a lot to like in this ‘22 grad.

Frederick Wessel (2022, SS/RHP, Randolph) Had the loudest round of BP on the day showing some major juice with multiple HR’s during BP and registered 90 mph exit velo off of a tee during evaluation. Ran a 7.05 60 and was up to 80 on the mound.

Cole Cheatham (2021, LHP/OF, Danville) Impressive young LHP that sat 81-83 and topped at 84 mph with big time ASR. The breaking showed nice shape with tight bite. Was able to command both pitches along with a 73 mph change up that showed tumble.

Brooks Bryan (2022, C, Opelika) Physical young catcher that did not disappoint. Has some juice to all field at the plate and showed a 92 mph exit velo during the evaluation. Solid set up behind the plate and showed upper 2.0’s pop times with throws on the bag.

Nick Hamlin (2021, RHP/ OF, Oxford) The RHP impressed on the mound with his FB up to 86 mph (sat 83-85). The motion is easy and he was able to command both sides of the plate with all pitches. A lot to like in this 6’2 175 pounder. Clean mechanics.

Thrasher Steed (2022, RHP/1B, Gulf Shores) Solid all around player that has really grown and put on some muscle since we last saw him. Solid defender around the bag at 1B and showed a middle of the field approach during BP. On the mound he showed very vice “down plane” with the FB that was up to 82 with nice 2 seem run.

Parker Willingham (2021, RHP/1B, Desher) Physical RHP that did not disappoint. The FB sat 84-87 and bumped 88 a few times. He is not just a “thrower” as he flashed a power breaking ball with nice spin and featured a very deceptive change up with very late tumble.

Jackson West (2021, 1B/RHP, Lee) A big time athlete at 6’5 215 pounds that turned in a blistering 6.79 60 yard dash. Showed some nice pull side pop at the plate and was 91 mph exit velo off of a tee. Plenty athletic at 1B with feel around the bag.
