Austin Sharp
Director of Scouting

Hoover, AL - Pool play at the PBRT Southeast Summer Championships has come to a close at the Hoover Met Complex with all teams being reseeded into either a playoff bracket or a consolation game. The PBR Staff was treated to some high-end arms and some impressive bats on Day 2. Championship Sunday is slated to be loaded with even more content, so make sure to stay posted on Twitter for updates throughout the tournament. Let's take a look at some of the standouts from Day 2...

8:00 Games

+ One player that always seems to produce at the plate is ‘24 3B/RHP Braden Booth (Bob Jones HS). A member of this summer’s PBR Junior Future Games, Booth picked right where he left off this morning as he collected two hits, one being a double, while driving in two runs for VBA 15U Black. Booth also showed some two-way potential, as he hopped on the mound to close and punched out two batters in his lone inning of work.

+ Over at Hoover High School, ‘22 SS/RHP Ethan Parmer (Beauregard HS) got things done both on the mound and at the plate for Colt 45’s Gray. On the mound, Parmer gave his team a solid outing, going five innings, allowing just two hits, two earned runs, and recording five strikeouts. On the offensive side, he went 2 for 3 with a double and also drove in three runs.

+ Another athletic, physical player to watch out for is ‘22 3B/RHP Noah Toney (Florence HS). In game one today he produced at the plate, driving in two of his team's four runs. He got the start for Black Sox Baseball in game two of their doubleheader, Toney showed great stuff on the mound and had to work out of a few jams during his outing. He was effective with his fastball 82-84, 85 but majority of his outs came from his slider 72-73 that showed late breaking action down in the zone.

+ Got a good look at ‘24 C Wes Walker (Priceville HS) during a workout with VBA this spring, and he seems to have gotten better in the past few months. Listed as a switch-hitter, Walker showed a mature approach from the left side versus a RHP when he drove a fastball on the outer-black right over the shortstop’s head to drive in two runs for VBA 15U Black. A physical player this will only get better with more maturity as he fills out his frame.

+ ‘23 OF/RHP Banks Langston (Russellville HS) had a solid day at the plate in Game 1. Recorded two hits & a walk while scoring twice in the BlackSox Baseball 16U win. The current sophomore displayed some quick twitch & hands at the plate, as he handled a fastball on the inner-half well and pulled it down the LF line during one of his AB’s.

+ ‘21 C/OF James Graham (Central Phenix City HS) put together a strong stat line at the dish in the Colt 45s/Gray win at 8:00 AM. Slotted in the middle of the order, Graham finished going 1 for 2 w/ a HR & 3 RBI’s. He also walked once and scored twice.

10:30 Games

+ ‘21 OF/LHP Jaden Rudd (Mosley HS, FL) & ‘22 2B Colton Ryals (Blountstown HS, FL) led the way at the top of the order for Next Level Baseball American in Game 1. Rudd finished the day going 2 for 4 w/ a double and an RBI, while Ryals went 3 for 4 w/ a triple and an RBI. Rudd is currently committed to Notre Dame and Ryals is uncommitted.

+ One of the top performances that came on the mound from Saturday’s games was ‘22 RHP/OF Andrew Horn (Smyrna HS, TN). Located the fastball 83-85 and slider 70-72 really well to the glove side of the zone. Worked with quick tempo, made hitters uncomfortable in the box at times. During his outing today for Wildcards Baseball, Horn’s final line ended with six innings pitched, two hits, 2 earned runs and 11 strikeouts.

+ In the 10:30 session, ‘22 3B/RHP Laney Keeton (Carbon Hill HS) really jump-started the VBA 16U Vegas Gold offense in the 1st inning when he drove home a pair of runs on a sharply-hit single through the 6-hole. Keeton displayed some impressive bat speed and already has some present strength at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds. The uncommitted junior finished Game 1 going 2 for 4 w/ a double & RBI’s from the cleanup spot.

1:00 Games

+ Over at Hoover High School, ‘21 OF Jackson Lindsey (Russellville HS) is currently one of the top uncommitted players left in the state of Alabama. In his 1st AB of the day, Lindsey got things going for Excel Blue Wave 2021 with a single up the middle against a funky LHP that provided a tough matchup. The senior has a whippy barrel and always seems to turn in quality AB’s at each look.

+ Getting the start for Excel Blue Wave 2021 on the mound was ‘21 RHP Trent Jones (Pelham HS), who struggled a bit with command but flashed some impressive stuff. Fastball was consistently 87-89, 90 mph with some arm-side action. Command was a bit iffy on the breaking ball, but found his changeup later in the outing. Recently committed to Southern Union CC.

+ During the 1:00 games, ‘24 MIF/OF Jacob Pearl (Huntsville HS) had himself a day at the plate. He led off the game with a bunt single, displaying his quickness down the line. Sparked the VBA 15u Black offense in the top of the fifth with a RBI single into left field. Pearl finished his day at the plate going 3 for 3 in the 14-2 VBA 15u Black win.

+ ‘22 RHP/OF Barrett Brown (East Limestone HS) turned in a quality start on the mound for VBA 17U Black. Fastball played mostly 82-84 mph with sink into RHH’s, paired with a very deceptive breaking ball. Pitched with a ton of confidence on the mound. Brown finished his outing going five innings, only allowing one hit, no runs, & striking out eight.

+ Previously known for his arm on the mound, ‘23 RHP/3B Chase Ambrose (Buckhorn HS) made his presence known with the bat in Game 1 of the day for the Excel Blue Wave 2023’s. Ambrose finished a strong day at the plate going 3 for 3 w/ a homerun & three RBI’s in the 13-2 victory.

+ ‘22 SS Tucker Burns (Sparkman HS) has always been very reliable with the glove, but he showed some prowess with the stick in Game 1. Burns stretched the VBA 17U Black lead to 3-0 when he went down and roped an offspeed offering into the back side gap for a standup 2 RBI triple.

3:30 Games

+ There is a lot to like in the future from ‘21 LHP James Tallon (Yorktown HS, VA). The 6-foot-4, 175 pound southpaw was ultra-efficient on the mound today in his start. Fastball worked up to 84 mph, but was located at the bottom of the zone with consistency. Breaking ball showed some sweeping action to it, while displaying the ability to locate it backdoor or to the backfoot to RHH’s. Flashed a few changeups that played well off the fastball. Turned in five innings on the mound, while only allowing one earned run & punching out six hitters for Prime Time Aces 2021.

+ ‘24 OF Eli Cannon (Corner HS) is starting to make a name for himself here in Hoover. The left-handed bat has been a hitting machine at the plate, putting up some impressive numbers across the board. Has already tallied six hits in his two pool play games so far, two of which are triples. Will be a name to watch for in the coming years.

+ ‘22 OF Brodie Holcomb (Thompson HS) turned in a solid day’s work during Top Gun Baseball TGB’s 2nd game of the day. Hitting in the leadoff spot, Holcomb exudes some elite athleticism and great bat-to-ball skills. Recorded a bases-clearing triple that proved to be the difference in their 5-2 victory.

6:00 Games

+ ‘21 SS Aidan Stewart (Next Level Academy) has been a name that we have grown accustomed to see posted big numbers at the plate. A Future Gamer in 2019, Stewart had a solid day at the plate hitting in the 2-hole for Triton Rays - NLA. A switch-hitter that has a chance to stick at both in the future. Made some loud contact from the right side during the nightcap and finished 2 for 3 w/ a couple of base hits. Definitely passes the eye test at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds. Missouri recruit.

+ ‘22 RHP/1B Howell Polk (Mountain Brook HS) came out pounding the strike zone for Excel Baseball Blue Wave 2022’s. His fastball 80-82 played with some late arm side run, slider 67-70 allowed him to keep hitters off balance as well. Polk turned in four innings of one hit ball, zero earned runs and five punchouts.

+ The bats were on fire in the night game for Excel Baseball Blue Wave 2022’s. Starting off with ‘22 3B Andrew Hunt (Oak Mountain HS), who went 2 for 2 with a no-doubt homerun over the left field fence. Hunt continues to be a force in the middle of the Excel lineup and will be one to watch on Championship Sunday.

+ Another standout in this game was ‘22 OF Ryan Storey (Helena HS) after a base knock in the first inning, he reached base in the third on a bunt single, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch. Storey also finished 2 for 2 with a walk. The South Alabama recruit uses his tools to elevate his game and play to his strengths, as he is an excellent runner that was clocked at 6.56 at the Top Prospect Games this summer.

+ With their pool play hopes on the line, the Triton Rays - NLA turned to ‘21 LHP Ethan Adkison (Next Level Academy), who turned in a solid outing on the mound. Fastball worked 84-86, 87 mph and really commanded it to the glove side. Slider was above average and played up off the fastball. Finished with 3 ⅓ innings, four hits, one earned run, and eight strikeouts. A recent San Jacinto CC verbal.

+ One who continues to perform is ‘22 3B/RHP Davis Gillespie (Oak Mountain HS). The right-handed bat laced a bases-loaded triple in the left center field gap and finished 2 for 3 at the dish. Like many on this Excel squad, Gillespie was a member of Team Alabama at this summer’s PBR Future Games.

+ ‘22 C Walker Zapp (Auburn HS) went 1 for 2 in the Excel win, he doubled down the left field line late in the game to extend the Blue Wave lead. The uncommitted junior has defined strength throughout his 5-foot-11, 190 pound frame. Incorporates the lower-half well. Handled all of Excel’s arms well behind the plate also. Good runner. Another former Future Gamer.

+ Another dominant pitching performance on the mound came from ‘23 RHP Ian Lee (Grissom HS). The young 5-foot-9, 130 pound right hander went the distance and gave the Huntsville Goats the win. Lee went a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits, three walks and fanned 14 during his outing.
