Top Prospect Games Scout Blog: Outfielders

Continuing our post-event coverage of the Top Prospect Games, today we will take a look at the 15 outfielders that were in attendance last Tuesday. It is a deep crop of talented players who showed that they can swing the bat as well as some who hopped on the mound and established themselves as true 2-way talents. Keep an eye out for more event-related content over the next couple of days as we begin to wrap up coverage from the Top Prospect Games.

 

Jack Bianca: OF/RHP, (2021) Grissom, AL. 6-foot, 150-pound athletic frame. In the box, Bianca had a max exit velocity of 81 mph. Has a balanced stance. Had level swing plane and some bat speed. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact . Line drive approach. His best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 79 mph; shows fluid feet, sure hands and a natural exchange. Fields the ball out front movements laterally were athletic. Showed consistent accuracy to the bases. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.36. On the mound, produced a fastball that came in at 78-79 mph and topped out at 81 mph; shows in the zone control with straight movement. Had late action and control around the zone on his 11/5 curveball (64-67).

Barrett Brown: RHP/OF, (2022) East Limestone, AL. 6-foot, 165-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter showed power in the box with an exit velocity of 94 mph. Sets up an athletic stance. Bat speed is efficient, uses level swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found lots of barrels with loud contact . Pull side approach. From the outfield, he displayed a position velocity of 81 mph; showed a natural exchange, consistent feet and sure hands. Showed a quick arm action with decent accuracy to the base. Showed his athleticism during the event with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.89. On the mound, produced a fastball that came in at 81-82 mph and topped out at 83 mph; showed sinking action and consistent control. Has command low in the zone on his sharp curveball (69-70). Showed decent control and fading action on his changeup (75-76).

Alton Davis II: LHP/OF, (2022) Bessemer Academy, AL. 6-foot-4, 180-pound projectable frame. At the plate, Davis ii showed his power in the box with a strong exit velocity of 92 mph. Sets up in an athletic stance with a short stride. Bat speed is efficient and shows level swing plane. Was able to create some loud contact and found multiple barrels.Up the middle approach. In the outfield, he showed a plus arm and had life on his throws with a position velocity of 92 mph;shows consistent hands and a clean exchange. Showed decent accuracy to the base with a very quick arm action. Displayed speed and athleticism at the event, recording a 60 time of 6.94. Projectable on the mound, had a very quick arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Uses some effort in his delivery. Threw his fastball 88-89 mph and topped out at 91 mph; shows consistent command and running action. Throws a 2/8 curveball (69-71) with tight action and around the zone control. Shows fading action and command around the zone on his changeup (74-75).

Jay Faulkner: OF/SS, (2022) Vestavia Hills, AL. 5-foot-10, 182-pound solid frame. During batting practice, Faulkner recorded an exit velocity of 88 mph. Sets up in an athletic stance and had a controlled stride. Bat speed is some and displays simple swing plane. He Produced some loud contact and found lots of barrels. Gap to gap approach. In the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 79 mph; has sure hands, smooth feet and a quick exchange. Showed decent accuracy to the bases. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.47.

JP Fox: RHP/OF, (2021) Shelby County, AL. 6-foot, 185-pound physical frame. In the box, Fox had an exit velocity of 86 mph. Setup consisted of a smooth load and balanced stance. Has level swing plane, some bat speed and good extension on his finish. He Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Line drive approach. Recorded an outfield position velocity of 83 mph; has consistent hands, quick feet and a natural exchange. Showed consistent accuracy to the bases. Clocked a 60 time of 7.17 at the event. On the mound, produced a fastball that came in at 83-84 mph and topped out at 85 mph; has running action and in the zone command. Throws a 11/5 curveball (73-76) that has control low in the zone and hard action.

Logan Hittle: OF/1B, (2021) Bob Jones, AL. 6-foot, 177-pound solid frame. At the plate, Hittle showed his power ability with an exit velocity of 90 mph. Sets up in an athletic stance with a smooth load. Bat speed is some. Created some loud contact and found lots of barrels. Line drive approach. His best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 83 mph; showed soft hands, smooth feet and a natural exchange. Showed a high ¾ slot and a short arm action with consistent accuracy to the base. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.2.

Garrett Lee: OF/RHP, (2021) Lawrence County, AL. 6-foot-4, 200-pound physical frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 88 mph. Began in a tall stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride. Had quick bat speed and upward swing plane. Found multiple barrels with some loud contacts. Pull side approach. From the outfield, he made throws to the infield at velocities up to 80 mph; shows a fluid exchange, sure hands and average feet. Showed decent accuracy to the bases. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.21. Projectable on the mound, showed easy effort in his delivery. Has a clean finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 76-78 mph with a max of 79 mph; had arm side command. His 11/5 curveball (67-69) shows decent command and late action.

Patch Lyman: OF/LHP, (2022) Mountain Brook, AL. 6-foot-2, 165-pound lean frame. In the box, the left-handed hitters best exit velocity was 81 mph. Began in a crouched stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride just before his swing. Bat speed is efficient and displays level swing plane. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. From the outfield, he displayed a position velocity of 76 mph; had a fluid exchange and smooth footwork. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a consistent arm action and a high ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.33. On the mound, produced a fastball that came in at 75-76 mph with a max of 76 mph; shows in the zone command and running action. Threw a 2/8 curveball (67-68) with consistent command and sweeping action.

Stephen Moraski: RHP/OF, (2021) Oak Mountain, AL. 6-foot, 145-pound solid frame. At the plate, Moraski had a max exit velocity of 88 mph. Starts in a balanced stance with a controlled load. Has simple swing plane and efficient bat speed. Had some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Line drive approach. Recorded an outfield position velocity of 85 mph; has smooth feet, soft hands and a natural exchange. Showed a quick arm action with consistent accuracy to the bag. Established speed as one of his strengths with an efficient 60 time of 6.92. On the mound, using a quick arm action he showed good arm speed from a high ¾ arm angle. Shows some effort in his delivery. Consistent balance point. Lands square with a clean finish. Slider (74-77 mph).Sat with his fastball at 86-87 mph with a max of 88 mph; has running action and in the zone command. Has a 11/5 curveball that shows tight action and around the zone command. His changeup (79-80) has control around the zone and fading action. Legit two way talent.

Avery Seaton: OF/RHP, (2021) Madison Academy, AL. 5-foot-10, 190-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter showed power in the box with an exit velocity of 92 mph. Started in an open athletic stance with a smooth load, then used a leg kick. Bat speed was quick, showed uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found lots of barrels with tons of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. His best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 86 mph; shows twitchy hands, a natural exchange and athletic feet. Had consistent accuracy. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.93. On the mound, showed a quick arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Up-tempo type pitcher who shows some effort. Showed consistent balance point. Sat with his fastball at 84-87 mph with a max of 87 mph; showed in the zone command. His 11/5 curveball (71-74) shows hard action and around the zone command. Showed command low in the zone and fading action on his changeup (78-79). The bat plays big time. 

Eli Steadman: OF/3B, (2021) Briarwood Christian, AL. 5-foot-11, 180-pound athletic frame. In the box, the left-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 87 mph. Starts in a crouched stance with a controlled stride. Bat speed was quick, and used simple swing plane. In the round he found lots of barrels with loud contact. Line drive approach. From the outfield, he made throws to the infield at velocities up to 80 mph; has consistent feet and soft hands. Showed consistent accuracy to the bases. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.71.Solid, steady player that does a lot of nice things on the field.

Ryan Storey: OF/RHP, (2022) Helena, AL. 5-foot-10, 160-pound athletic frame. At the plate, Storey recorded an exit velocity of 87 mph. Starts in an open stance with a smooth load, then uses a small leg kick before his swing. Had efficient bat speed, uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. He Barreled up lots of balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. His best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 84 mph; has consistent hands, athletic feet and a natural exchange. Had consistent accuracy to the base and a quick arm action. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.56 60-yard dash. Hard nosed player with a throwback type mentality to the game. 

Christian Sutphin: OF/RHP, (2022) Grissom, AL. 6-foot, 198-pound physical frame. During batting practice, Sutphin had an exit velocity of 89 mph, showing his ability to drive the ball with power. Started in an athletic stance and used a leg kick. Has uphill swing plane, quick bat speed and good extension on his finish. Was able to create loud contact and found lots of barrels. Gap to gap approach. In the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 85 mph; has a clean exchange, consistent feet and soft hands. Showed a high ¾ slot and consistent accuracy to the bag. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.19. On the mound, has a high ¾ arm angle and a quick arm action. Up-tempo type pitcher and uses some effort. Sat with his fastball at 84-85 mph and topped out at 86 mph; has a around the zone control that shows straight movement. Has tight action and control around the zone on his 11/5 curveball (68-70).

Will Taylor: OF/OF, (2022) McGill Toolen, AL. 5-foot-7, 150-pound athletic frame. In the box, the left-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 83 mph. Began in an athletic stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride before his swing. Bat speed was quick, and used level swing plane. Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Line drive approach. In the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 79 mph; had sure hands, athletic footwork and a fluid exchange. Showed consistent accuracy. Established speed as one of his strengths with an efficient 60 time of 6.65.

Bodie Vail: OF/RHP, (2022) Northridge, AL. 6-foot-1, 175-pound athletic frame. At the plate, Vail clocked an exit velocity of 86 mph. Started in an athletic stance then used a controlled stride. Had some bat speed. Found lots of barrels with some loud contacts. Gap to gap approach. In the outfield, his best throws to the infield topped out at 85 mph; had smooth footwork and sure hands. Decent accuracy to the bag, used a quick arm action and a high ¾ slot. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.65. On the mound, sat with his fastball at 81-83 mph and topped out at 84 mph; showed sinking action and in the zone command. His 11/5 curveball (69-70) had command around the zone and tight action.
