Uncommitted 2022's in Alabama

As the high school season approaches, numerous teams throughout the state will be depending on some high-end juniors to play an integral part for the 2021 season. Several 2022 grads have already pledged their college commitments but there are many very talented juniors that are still uncommitted. Today, we take a look at a few of those uncommitted juniors from Alabama that we have seen this past summer and fall.  

UNCOMMITTED 2022's


Aiden Macks OF / 1B / Robertsdale , AL / 2022

5-foot-11, 195-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and first baseman, thick frame with strength throughout, moves athletically, will only continue to add strength and firm up frame. Offensively was a standout performer during batting practice, the only prospect to leave the yard all morning, accomplishing it multiple times. At the plate, has a swagger about him in the box, takes a balanced setup, hanging leg stride, high hands drop on load, incorporates lower half well, good balance through contact.  Profiles as a power hitter with pull-side tendency, barrel works uphill as he elevates the ball with considerable force, 90 mph exit velocity off a tee. Ran a 7.24 laser-timed 60.


Mason Swinney SS / RHP / Phil Campbell , AL / 2022

6-foot-1, 170-pound athletic frame. In the box, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 86 mph. Setup consists of athletic stance and a controlled stride. Had quick bat speed. Barreled up lots of balls with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Smooth in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 86 mph. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a ¾ slot and a quick arm action. Clocked a 60 time of 7.22 at the event. Fastball has been up to 90 mph recently. 


Walker Zapp C / 1B / Auburn, AL / 2022

5-foot-10, 190-pound physical frame. During batting practice, Zapp showed power in the box with an exit velocity of 95 mph. Began in a crouched stance with a quick load, then used a short stride before his swing. Bat speed is efficient, uses simple swing plane and good extension on his finish. He found lots of barrels with loud contact. Line drive approach. While catching, had quick feet and transfers on his throw downs, recording a 1.87-1.94 pop time, he produced a position velocity of 76 mph during throw downs; has soft hands, consistent feet and a quick exchange. A lot of flexibility and athletic setup.Showed consistent accuracy to the base with a very quick arm action. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.81.


William Burgreen SS / 2B / Decatur, AL / 2022

5-foot-11, 160-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, Burgreen showed power in the box with an exit velocity of 89 mph. Begins in a balanced stance with a quick load, then uses a toe tap to initiate his swing. Bat speed is efficient and uses uphill swing plane. He found lots of barrels in his rounds. Line drive approach. Confident while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 82 mph; has sure hands and consistent feet. Showed consistent accuracy to the base with a quick arm action and a high ¾ slot. Displayed speed and athleticism at the event, recording a 60 time of 6.73. Continues to impress and has added some notable strength.


McGwire Turner 3B / SS / Helena, AL / 2022

6-foot-2, 178-pound solid frame. During batting practice, Turner displayed an exit velocity of 95 mph, showing his strength and power ability. Setup is comprised of balanced stance and a short stride. Had quick bat speed, uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. Through his round he found multiple barrels with loud contact. Pull side approach. In the infield, recorded a position velocity of 83 mph; has a fluid exchange, consistent feet and sure hands. Had a quick arm action and consistent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.07.


Colton Wood C / 2B / Faith Academy, AL / 2022

6-foot, 175-pound physical frame. At the plate, Wood showed his power ability with an exit velocity of 90 mph. Started in an open stance with a controlled load, then used a leg kick. Bat speed is explosive, uses upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found lots of barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Behind the plate, displayed next-level catching ability by boasting a 1.85-1.90 pop time, in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 89 mph; has sure hands and consistent feet. His best throw downs of the day reached a max velocity of 80 mph; has soft hands, athletic feet and a quick exchange. A lot of flexibility and quiet setup.Showed consistent accuracy to the bases. Displayed speed and athleticism at the event, recording a 60 time of 6.83. A definite 2022 grad to keep an eye. Shows a ton of plus skills.


Evan Pope OF / RHP / Auburn , AL / 2022

5-foot-10, 165-pound solid frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter showed his power ability with an exit velocity of 96 mph. Starts in a balanced stance with a controlled load, then uses a quick stride. Has uphill swing plane, quick bat speed and good extension on his finish. Through his round he found multiple barrels with tons of loud contact. Pull side approach. In the outfield, he showed a plus arm and had life on his throws with a position velocity of 92 mph;had fluid footwork. Showed a quick arm action and a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base. Clocked a 60 time of 7.22 at the event. On the mound, had a quick arm action and a ¾ arm angle. Showed high effort in his delivery. Produced a fastball that came in at 82-84 mph with a max of 85 mph; showed command around the zone and running action. Showed tight action and control low in the zone on his 11/5 curveball (74-76 mph).


Kyle Blevins SS / 2B / T.R. Miller , AL / 2022

Solid actions on this ‘22 SS that started with the feet very slightly open. Very compact approach with no wasted movement in the setup or swing. The hands have present strength and the barrel creates some violence through the hitting zone. Does a nice job keeping the head still throughout and the swing plane is fairly flat. Love the finish with the barrel. Looked very natural at SS and did a nice job working the feet to present the glove out in front. Showed a quick release and the arm strength is nice and throws were on target to 1B.


JW Hopkins 1B / RHP / Bob Jones, AL / 2022

Hopkins continues to show his big time power as he showed an event best 98 mph exit velocity off the tee. Slightly open stance with a fairly high leg kick approach allows him to create some torque in the lower half. There is definite tit in the swing plane and he showed a mostly pull side approach. The hands show some quickness and there is plus bat speed with nice extension through the finish. Actions at 1B are clean and he showed nice feet around the bag. Big corner infielder in the ‘22 class with a loud bat.


Patrick McGlon 3B / 1B / Auburn, AL / 2022

6-foot-4, 200-pound physical frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter's 98 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. Sets up in a wide tall stance and has a short stride. Had electric bat speed, uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found lots of barrels with tons of loud contact. Aggressive approach. While in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 80 mph; had consistent footwork. Showed a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base. Clocked a time of 7.28 in the 60-yard dash. Ball comes off the bat differently for this uncommitted 2022 grad.


Josh Bowerman RHP / 3B / Mars Hill Bible , AL / 2022

 6-foot-3, 195-pound sturdy frame. At the plate, Bowerman showed his power in the box with a strong exit velocity of 92 mph. Sets up in a balanced stance with a controlled stride. Bat speed is efficient. He showed some loud contact during his round. Opposite field approach. While in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 82 mph; had consistent footwork. Showed a high ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. Recorded a time of 7.55 in the 60-yard dash. Advanced on the mound, uses a quick arm action and an over-the-top arm angle. Shows some effort in his delivery. Showed consistent balance point. Produced a fastball that came in at 85-87 mph with a max of 88 mph; shows in the zone command. Throws a 11/5 curveball (71-72) that has tight action and low in the zone command. changeup (80-81) had in the zone accuracy. Physicality is evident in his game all the way around. Nice downhill action on the fastball.


Kaleb Heatherly 1B / RHP / Cullman, AL / 2022

6-foot-6, 240-pound physical frame. During batting practice, Heatherly had an exit velocity of 96 mph, showing his ability to drive the ball with power. Started in a tall stance then used a leg kick. Has explosive bat speed, uphill swing plane and good extension on his finish. He Barreled up lots of balls with loud contact. Aggressive approach. In the infield, recorded a position velocity of 81 mph. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.16. Projectable on the mound, had a ¾ arm angle and quick arm speed. Showed some effort in his delivery. Sat with his fastball at 81-82 mph with a max of 82 mph. Curveball (69-71 mph), changeup (75-76 mph).


Jase Gray RHP / Gadsden City, AL / 2022

5-foot-10, 180-pound mature frame. Above average on the mound, threw from a high ¾ arm angle and had above average arm speed. Up-tempo type pitcher and uses some effort. an athletic finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 84-86 mph and topped out at 87 mph; had late action and arm side command with heavy movement. Showed a sharp curveball (68-69) with late action. Late ASR on the fastball and the breaking ball is a 2 plane pitch showing late depth. Nice looking '22 RHP.


Zane Stokes SS / 2B / Mobile Christian , AL / 2022

5-foot-10, 165-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 90 mph, showing his ability to drive the ball with power. Begins in a tall stance with a quick load, then uses a short stride before his swing. Bat speed was some, and displayed level swing plane. Found multiple barrels during his rounds. Gap to gap approach. In the infield, his position velocity was registered at 80 mph; had a clean exchange, athletic footwork and sure hands. Showed consistent accuracy. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.88.


Steven Cash LHP / OF / Bibb County, AL / 2022

6-foot-1, 160-pound lanky frame. Above average on the mound, has a high ¾ arm angle and quick arm speed. Feel type pitcher and uses easy effort. Showed athletic balance point. Sat with his fastball at 81-82 mph and topped out at 82 mph; has sinking action and around the zone command. His 12/6 curveball (65-69) has very consistent command and late action. His changeup (70-71) has very consistent command and fading action. Smooth action and a clean arm path who can locate all pitches to both sides of the dish. High projectability in this LHP.


Christian Sutphin OF / RHP / Grissom, AL / 2022

6-foot-1, 210-pound physical frame. At the plate, Sutphin showed his power in the box with a strong exit velocity of 92 mph. Sets up in a balanced stance and has a quick stride. Bat speed is above average and exhibits uphill swing plane. He barreled up lots of balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Throwing from the outfield, he displayed power in his arm with throws up to 89 mph;clean exchange. Showed a high ¾ slot with decent accuracy to the bag. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.4. On the mound, has a short arm action. Showed high effort in his delivery. Produced a fastball that came in at 80-81 mph with a max of 82 mph; had running action and command around the zone. Throws a 11/5 curveball (66-67) that shows control low in the zone and tight action.
