Underclass Games: Preview

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

The Alabama Underclass Games will be held this Tuesday, June 22nd, at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, AL. Many of the top uncommitted 2023-2026 prospects in the state of Alabama will be in attendance, looking to impress in front of the many college coaches who will be in attendance with the NCAA dead period recently being lifted. CLICK HERE to view the roster & teams for this event.

Our staff will be using this event to select players to represent Alabama at the 2021 PBR Future Games & PBR Jr. Future Games. The Future Games is the summer's ultimate recruiting event for 2023 and 2024 uncommitted prospects. Last year's event was attended by more than 300 college coaches. This event will take place July 29 - August 1 at LakePoint in Cartersville, GA.

Upon arriving and getting checked in at 10:15-10:40 AM, position players will go through a pro-style workout, and then take batting practice before taking place in gameplay against pitchers. During batting practice, players will be using our Blast Motion sensors, as well as a Trackman B1 Unit to record numbers that will be imported into their profiles for college coaches to see.

Names to Keep an eye on

+ SS Mason Perrigo (Vestavia Hills, 2024) has a chance to be one of the top prospects across the board in the rising sophomore class with elite tools across the board already. 6-1, 180-pound body with 6.91 laser-timed 60 YD speed that he showed at the Excel Scout Day roughly a week ago. Showcased some solid arm strength across the infield, and has a chance to hit for plenty of power down the road.

+ 3B/RHP Brendan Conner (Corner, 2024) has steadily started to cement himself as on of the top two-way players in the rising sophomore class. Strong 5-11, 190-pounds with significant strength in the lower body, and uses that well to generate an 85 mph fastball and plenty of pop off the bat offensively. Holds velocity well throughout outings, and has plenty of upside at the plate as well.

+ SS/RHP Drey Barrett (Holtville, 2024) has been to multiple PBR events over the past couple of years, including the PBR Junior Future Games in 2020. Impressive 6-2, 175-pound frame, has plenty of solid movements and actions at the plate and up the middle. Lots of room for growth down the road with the advanced frame, and has also picked up a few ticks on the mound.

+ 1B Tucker Arrington (Thompson, 2024) will be looking to build off his performance at the Future/Junior Future Games Trials earlier this summer, where he showed off solid traits as a physical left-handed hitter. 6-0, 195-pound frame, has a smooth left-handed stroke with the ability to spray the ball to all fields, as he showed during his round of BP. One to watch this Tuesday, as well as over the next few years.

+ OF Rick McBride III (Montgomery Academy, 2024) is another prospect, like Arrington, that was a top performer at the Future/Junior Future Games Trials event earlier this summer. 5-10, 155-pound frame with premium athleticism. Ran a blazing 6.63 laser-timed 60 YD at the event, and barreled the ball up with consistency during his round of BP. An intriguing prospect in the rising sophomore class.

RHP/SS Luke Holbrook (Whitesburg Christian, 2025) was really impressive at the PBRT Alabama Select last week playing up an age division with Bulls Baseball 15U. Long & lean 6-2, 160-pound frame that excelled at the plate and on the mound during the tournament. Ran the fastball up to 79 mph and also showed a smooth swing from the right side at the plate. Interesting young prospect to keep tabs on at this event and in the future.
