North AL Preseason All-State: Quick Hits, Outfielders

Austin Sharp
Alabama Scouting Director

HARTSELLE, AL - The North AL Preseason All-State, one of the top events of the year, was held on Saturday, January 18th at Hartselle HS Indoor in Hartselle, AL. This event was an invite-only event that consisted of prospects from the 2025-2029 classes. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 30-yard dash using VALD Performance due to weather, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Saturday.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we continue our Quick Hits edition by highlighting some of the top outfielders in attendance at the event. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release other leaderboards and individual scouting reports on each player present at the event.

Cole Miles OF / Hartselle, AL / 2026

Jacksonville State recruit. 6-foot-0, 198-pounds. Strong, mature build with quality athleticism. One of the top outfielders in the 2026 class in Alabama and a former Future Gamer from last summer. Has added some good weight of roughly 15 pounds since that the event, and carries a now physical presence to the batter's box. From the right side, Miles is real simple and direct to contact while flashing quick hands and routine gap-to-gap pop from a shorter, more compact swing. He possesses a shorter stride with simplicity to his operation, and allows the barrel to work cleanly throught the zone on a mostly upward path. Possesses a quality mix of hit/power tools, and should continue to add to both in the not too distant future. He lived consistently on the barrel while producing frequent line drives to all parts of the field, and posted a top EV of 97.5 mph. Defensively, he can play all three outfield spots with a corner spot at the next level looking more likely right now. Multi-sport athlete with quality makeup. Also clocked a 3.99 30-yard dash during the workout.

Slade Bounds OF / Spain Park, AL / 2027

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 186-pounds. Physical build with proportional strength and more to come. Also a well-rounded athlete with an advanced set of tools for a prospect of his age. Currently ranked as the top outfielder in the 2026 class in Alabama and No. 10 overall. Was near the top of most statistical leaderboards from the event while still being an underclassman. With the most intriguing tools being on the offensive side, the right-hander shows the ability to impact the baseball at a such a high level while not taking much effort to generate higher exits. Starting slightly-open, the sophomore uses a controlled leg kick for timing to work back to square and slots his hands and barrel in a more compact position near his body. The barrel works on an upward path through contact while showing some elite bat speed for his age, averaging 74.4 mph per Blast Motion. More linear rotation during the swing and rotates hard using a strong lower-half. Ball jumps off and sounds differently when squared up, peaking at 100.0 mph during his round of BP. With such physical strength, Bounds is also a quality athlete and showed his twitch and burst with a 3.827 30-yard dash, which was third-best from the event.

Brock Green OF / Northside, AL / 2028

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 188-pounds. Strong build with present strength and more on the way in the future. One of the top outfielders in the young 2028 class in Alabama and No. 13 overall. A prospect our staff was excited to get eyes on again after a standout showing at a scout day this past summer. Physical left-handed hitter with ability to impact and lift with a fairly substantial power upside. Offensively, he hits from a square stance and utilizes a simple stride while creating some separation and efficient rhythm. Has the ability to turn the barrel with some lag to it and present hand quickness. Possesses a smooth left-handed swing and works the barrel on a mostly level path with some lift in the swing, allowing him to drive the baseball to the pull-side gap with some authority. One of the better left-handed swings in the freshman class, Green posted a top EV of 92.7 mph and will continue to tick higher with more volumes of power output in the near future as he develops and adds to his already impressive, projectable frame. More of a corner outfielder defensively, the freshman showcases above-average arm strength for his age while peaking at 84 mph with good accurary on his throws. Also has the ability to run his fastball up to 80 mph on the mound with quality secondaries. Certainly a name to get acclimated with in the state of Alabama.

Cruise Baker OF / Hartselle, AL / 2026

Uncommitted. 5-foot-6, 142-pounds. Wiry, athletic build. A gamer-type prospect who has built a strong track record of in-game performance with his right-handed bat and athletic skill set. Affects the game in a variety of way and is a quality uncommitted prospect to get eyes on this spring. Offensively, the right-hander hits from an upright stance and a square, balanced base. Using a smaller leg kick for timing trigger, the junior separates some with the hands and begins to build momentum and generate strength from the ground-up during the swing. Meeting the baseball with a more level path, Baker swings with controlled violence and has a strong feel for the barrel while consistently squaring up the baseball for firm contact. An all-fields hitter with an accurate barrel, the right-hander showcased some impressive gap-to-gap pop during his round of BP, peaking at 97.9 mph. A consistent in-game performer, Baker is a low-chase rate hitter who flashes a quality hit tool and some unassuming power for his size. Also a ball-hawk defensively in the grass who covers tons of ground in center field. Shows some arm strength topping at 85 mph on throws to the plate with good accuracy. Also a 3.99-runner in the 30-yard dash.

Davis Kelley OF / Helena, AL / 2026

Uncommmitted. 6-foot-0, 170-pounds. Lean, high-waisted build with quality athleticism. Another intriguing uncommitted outfielder in the 2026 class in Alabama who has made some impressive strides over the past year. Has a strong set of projectable tools and put them on display at this event. Offensviely, the right-hander has an athletic stance with efficient rhyhtm throughout. Showcases a short, simple stride for timing and has minimal wasted movement pre-pitch. Fundamental right-handed swing with some adjust-ability being able to find the barrel on pitches at different parts of the zone. Upward bat path through contact and keeps it in the zone for a good while. A gap-to-gap hitter with some hit/power tool mix, Kelley should continue to improve as he continues to add strength and develop, as he posted a top EV of 99.2 mph during his round of BP. Also has some arm strength working up to 86 mph from the outfield, and clocked a 3.97 30-yard dash during the workout. Good uncommitted name to watch for this spring.

Brayden Entrekin OF / LHP / Russellville, AL / 2028

Uncommitted. 5-foot-9, 164-pounds. Lean, athletic build with present room to add. One of the top outfielders in the 2028 class in Alabama and No. 15 overall. One of our favorite players to watch play the game, as he carries himself much older than his age would suggest and has an advanced skill set as a two-way player. From the left side of the plate, Entrekin is a high-contact rate hitter who routinely finds the barrel using a clean, repeatable swing. Starting slightly-open, the freshman works back to square using a medium stride and does a good job of keeping weight on his back-side. Works the barrel on an upward path through the zone and turns it with some aggression using a strong top-hand. Creates some leverage in the swing and has an advanced feel for the barrel. Consistent barrels to all parts of the field during his round of BP, posting a top EV of 93.9 mph. In the outfield, he has excellent instincts and gets great jumps on balls, while pairing it with a strong, accurate arm that peaked at 88 mph on throws to the plate. Well-rounded athlete. On the mound, he shows advanced pitch-ability with a fastball that touched 79.8 mph during his bullpen. Already has tons of varsity experience playing as a eighth-grader and is one of the Russellville's top returning starters this spring.

Bryson Hodge OF / James Clemens, AL / 2028

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 157-pounds. Lean, high-waisted build with plenty of athleticism and projection. Another top-25 prospect in the 2028 class in Alabama and should be making a slight jump in the next rankings cycle after his performance at this event. A high-level athlete with quality offensive traits, Hodge offers up plenty of upside with advanced skills and an athletic frame that should only continue to carry more mass and improve. Hitting from a square, balanced stance, the right-hander utilizies a simple stride for timing and showcases a smooth swing that routinely found the barrel during his round of BP. Showing loose hands with athletic actions all-around offensively, works the barrel on an upward path with some impact ability and consistent one-handed finishes. Possesses quick hands with an average of 23.9 mph and an average rotational acceleration of 26.2 G, per Blast Motion. Driving balls to the pull-side gap frequently during his round, the freshman right-hander posted a top EV of 91.9 mph with the ability to hit for higher exits coming into the not too distant future. Moves well in the grass defensively, where he posted a top outfield velocity of 87 mph. Also a 3.93-runner in the 30-yard dash.

Cross Bowen OF / Cullman, AL / 2027

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 149-pounds. Lean, wiry build. High-level athleticism with projectablity in the frame. Quality left-handed hitter with present and projectable tools that showed up in numerous ways in his first Prep Baseball showcase. Offensively, the sophomore starts in a balanced, square stance with a lower hand-slot gets the foot down early using a short, quick stride for timing. Pushes hands back during the load and works them on a clean, upward path through contact while displaying quick hands and some present bat speed. More hit tool right now with line-drive approach, but should continue to hit for higher volumes of power output in the future as he grows and develops into his frame. Consistent line drives to the back net during his round of BP, posting a top EV of 95.7 mph. Moves athletically in the outfield with good range, and showcases above-average arm strength at 88 mph on his accurate throws to the plate during the defensive workout. Can play all three outfield spots. Also clocked a 3.87 30-yard dash during the workout.

Will Congo OF / RHP / James Clemens, AL / 2027

Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 160-pounds. Wiry, athletic build. Showcased a quality set of tools at his disposal and ranked near the top of a few statistical categories. Has appeared to have made some quality strides to his games since the prior viewing this summer and looks to have a bright future ahead of him. From the right side of the plate, the sophomore starts slightly-open and works back square using a quicker stride for timing. Solid, fundamental swing with athleticism. Showcased a quality feel for the barrel throughout his round of BP, peaking at 95.0 mph. More level path through the zone produces a more line-drive, all-fields approach right now. A strong-armed outfielder, Congo posted the top outfield velocity of the event at 93 mph, with the other four throws also being above 90 mph. Trimmed his 30-yard dash from 4.21 this summer to 4.06 at this event. On the mound, the arm strength translates to an 84-85 mph fastball that peaked at 85.6 mph from an athletic delivery. Averaged 16.9 in. of induced vertical break and topped at 20.7 in. Can land a sweeping 66-69 mph breaking ball that spins at 2471 RPM avg. and registers an average of -17.6 in. of horizontal movement, and rounds out the three-pitch mix with a fading changeup at 76-77 mph.
