2017 Prospect Review: #24 Peyton Holt

Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

As the calendar turns to December, I want to review the top prospects from the 2017. These players have separated themselves as top prospect, with the potential at some point in their career to become professional prospects, if they are not already.

Scouting Report

Top Prospect Games

Holt is a 5-foot-10 175-pound middle infielder with an athletic frame and build. He runs a 6.90 in the 60. Defensively he shows advanced actions playing through the baseball with fluid footwork, smooth transition and quick arm from a H ¾ arm slot. He throws the baseball 82 mph across the infield. Offensively he starts from an open stance, he strides into the plate and uses a slight hand load back. He gets online and uses a slight uphill swing that produces exit velocities up to 90 mph. He has shown a feel for his barrel and the ability to hit balls to all fields on a consistent basis. Overall Holt is an advanced athlete with solid skill set both offensively and defensively.

Top Prospects 2017 Hitting

Holt started at short stop last spring for Greenwood. He was a staple defensively for the Bulldogs as they won their district and made a run to the state semi-finals. He showed well defensively all spring. The question on Holt was, how offensive could he be consistently.

Last summer with Sticks Baseball Academy, he answered those questions. He showed a consistent line drive swing and a feel for his barrel, being productive throughout the summer.  He also performed well at the Top Prospects Game, showing improvement on phases of his game.

He turned several heads throughout the summer, before committing to Louisiana Lafayette at the end of the summer. Overall Holt is a premium defender who projects to play either spot in the middle infield as he transitions to the collegiate level. His development as a hitter will determine, his stock as a professional player.
