Scouting Report

Austin Kelly, RHP, Bryant High School
Kelly is a 6-foot 200-pound RHP with a large frame and physical build. He pitches from an H 3.4 arm slot with a fast arm. He repeats his delivery with an up-tempo rhythm. He commands the strike zone with a fastball that works 87-90 mph with late boring action. He compliments his fastball with slider with 10/4 action and late break thrown 74-77 mph. Overall Kelly is a physical player with a fast arm speed and a sharp slider.

Kelly began receiving notice as a player with big time arm strength and a feel for the breaking ball playing for the Bryant Blacksox. Command was somewhat erratic at times but the quick arm and feel for the slider made Kelly intriguing. His senior season he transferred to Robinson high school where he was able to gain much needed experience, as he had been buried in the depth chart at Bryant High School the previous three season.

Kelly initially committed to the University of Arkansas, late in the spring he decomitted from Arkansas and committed to San Jacinto College, where he will be able to develop as innings will be more accessible than they might have been at Arkansas. Kelly had a solid fall for the Gators and will have the opportunity to show his advancement to MLB scouts, so they will be able to determine if he is ready now or needs more seasoning.
